The base salary for this position is dependent upon experience and location ranging from $85k-$90k. Team Description
The Protection and Control (P&C) department engineers all operator controls and automated behaviors in the power system. This includes monitoring the power system for all conceivable abnormal conditions and predetermining how the system should react to each situation. This is primarily achieved by programming relays (specialized computers) within substations. The Philosophy and Standards department is a subgroup within P&C that is responsible for researching industry best practices to create P&C standards.
Job Summary
General responsibilities include assisting in the development of P&C engineering standards, relay setting file templates, record keeping processes, and engineering tools. This can include researching specific P&C topics to update the company standards.
There Are Two Available Assignments In The Short Term
- Creation of a SEL-2411 alarm relay template to be used in Medium Voltage Gas-Insulated Switchgear (MVGIS).
- Lab testing of a SEL-751 feeder relay template. Testing includes injecting simulated fault currents and verifying the customized logic of the relay. If the rotational is exceptional, they can participate in the integration testing of multiple substation relays using a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS).
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology;
- Less than 2 years of work experience
- Rotation 1 - 6 Months - Protection and Control (Philosophy and Standards),
- Rotation 2 - 6 Months - Protection and Control (Captial Projects),
- Rotation 3 - 4 Months - Testing and Commissioning,
- Rotation 4 - 8 Months - Transmission Planning
