Summary:
Provide technical support for constructing and operating CenterPoint Energy’s electric distribution system. Directly support assigned service centers.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
•Disseminate information of CNP standards & specifications and provide technical assistance to the service centers and customers.
•Uses historic data to analyze circuit loading, identify operating issues and make reliability and operational recommendations for the distribution system.
•Utilize engineering tools to identify potential reliability issues, equipment failures, report findings and form recommendations for solutions.
•Utilize software to perform engineering studies.
•Gathers information and compiles data from multiple sources (SAP, GIS, Key Accounts, Service Centers) to construct electrical models or perform other analysis.
•Identify unbalanced circuits and notify S/C personnel to take corrective action.
•Aid other engineering groups with investigations of voltage issues/complaints.
•Support service center investigation in circuit reliability.
•Develop standards on reliability practices and investigations.
•Generate various engineering reports
•Analyze data and make recommendations to improve circuit performance.
•Field inspections to identify operations issues that are causing reliability problems.
•Various teams/task forces/special projects.
•Performs engineering studies to analyze and respond to request, special studies, etc.
•Work with equipment vendors to resolve material issues or identify new technologies and products.
•Perform a variety of engineering tasks such as analyze system performance using monitoring equipment and other engineering tools to identify issues and develop solutions
Education:
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

•Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.
•Able to use a computer equipment and software programs to provide project documentation, relay, settings, event analysis, equipment commissioning and management reports.
•Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents.
•Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.
•Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy.
•Able to communicate effectively with engineering, construction personnel, customers, and others in written and verbal form.
•Able to interpret and apply the National Electric and National Electric Safety Codes.
•Able to work and participate successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.
•Able to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues, plan activities and meet or exceed objectives.

Physical Requirements:* Able to work with some exposure to all weather conditions; hot, dirty and/or greasy equipment, high noise levels, and uneven and overgrown terrain, when inspecting work sites in field.
•Able to demonstrate the visual acuity to view and inspect work and job sites/field locations.
•Able to verbally exchange information with customers and company personnel.
•Able to climb, stand, walk, bend, kneel and squat to perform work.
•Able to demonstrate the manual dexterity required to operate a personal computer.
•Able to view computer terminal/screen, sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
•Able to take notes and compose written documents.
•Able to exert less than ten pounds of force frequently and greater than ten pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
•Able to travel to field locations for inspection, installation, investigation and occasionally to travel out of town overnight for meetings or conferences.
•Able to operate general office equipment such as a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, etc.

Working Conditions:* Work a varied schedule that may require more than 40 hours per week to meet established deadlines and accomplish objectives.
•Perform work indoors in an office environment and outdoors at construction sites.
•Perform inspections of work sites, coordinate and exchange ideas with field personnel, vendors and fabricators, and follow up with inspections
•May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts
