The Assistant Plant Manager role will partner with the Plant Manager in managing the production aggregate operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost effective operations. This role will focus on safety, production, maintenance, quality, environmental and other production related activities. This position will report directly to the Plant Manager and in the absence of the Plant Manager, will report in to the Area Manager.

Essential Functions

Plan and direct daily mining operations in coordination with Plant Manager
Review daily equipment inspection reports and respond accordingly
Monitor all plant personnel to make sure all training, safety, production and staffing needs are being met
Provide mentoring and coaching to employees. Works with Plant Manager and HR to address personnel issues, including steps in the progressive discipline policy. Helps Plant Manager with identifying and developing talent at each plant site
Assist in scheduling and monitoring fixed and mobile equipment maintenance programs, making sure the plant personnel are properly trained on maintenance standards
Identify, assess, prioritize and resolve production quality and employee related problems
Participates in monthly production/planning meetings as well as weekly safety meetings
Strive with Plant manager to achieve the budget targets concerning production goals
Monitor mobile and fixed equipment needs, working with plant and equipment operators in making sure the proper replacement and repair parts are on hand to minimize downtime and maximize production
Communicate freely and openly with senior management regarding goals and objectives
Ability to fill in as needed in a variety of plant positions, other duties as assigned

Education Qualifications

Required High School or Equivalent
Preferred Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of training and work experience
Preferred Associate's Degree or an equivalent combination of training and work experience


Experience Qualifications

Required 5+ years industry related experience, preferably in fine aggregate w/ dredging, pumping, screening, classification and material handling experience


Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of modern principles and practices of supervising production employees
Thorough working knowledge of plant operation (aggregate, asphalt, ready mix) and its associated products, processes and related equipment
This position requires knowledge and awareness of site hazards. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations (MSHA)
Knowledge and understanding of business planning and financial forecasting requirements
Knowledge of drilling and blasting
Excellent leadership, communication, organization, conflict and problem resolution skills
Requires use of computerized equipment and technology
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment and other software packages relevant to the position
Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making. Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
Ability to plan and manage effectively using motivation and team building skills
Good organization skills; excellent problem-solving skills and practices


Licenses and Certifications

Valid Driver's license and a good driving record Required


Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time
Must have the ability to drive a pick-up truck on a daily basis
Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant. In the office employee will occasionally be required to sit at a desk or operator's station. In the outside setting employee will perform activities at various heights, around moving machinery, be exposed to dust, fumes and gases; may be required to use hand tools or power tools. Outside setting will expose employee to changes in temperature/humidity and will require walking on uneven surfaces. May be required to climb steps, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, crawl or reach above shoulders to accomplish functions of job. Position will require ability to operate automobile within plant site as well as on the open road which would require the use of both feet as well as being able to walk or climb
Position requires ability to work at multiple sites depending on business needs, willingness to work on a rotating schedule with varying shifts, flexibility to work long hours, and travel as needed
