The Assistant Manager role will have a wide scope of responsibilities. Lakes Gas Assistant Managers are expected to carry through on the direct requests from the Regional Manager and Home Office. Person needs to have a Class B CDL with Tanker, Airbrakes, and Hazardous Materials endorsements. If the prospective manager does not have endorsements, they must actively be scheduled to train and test to meet job duty requirements. Person needs to possess a current DOT medical certificate card. Person needs to have strong time management skills, display attention to detail, have the ability to prioritize tasks, and give proper directions to staff. Must look for and communicate to Regional Manager opportunities for improvement. Must ensure employee work is completed in a safe and timely manner. Primary responsibilities include excellent customer service, sales and conflict resolution skills.

In the absence of or per the direction of the Regional Manager ability to lead, organize and supervise the support staff. Responsible for Human Resources functions at the branch level: incident reporting, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, employee training and development, conflict resolution, coaching, counseling, and involvement with termination of employment. Responsible for processing accurate timecards, routing deliveries, maintenance and inspection of company and customer properties and equipment. Must adhere to all Local, State and Federal laws, including DOT rules and regulations per Pamphlet 54 and 58. Must ensure branch compliance with all of Lakes Gas Co.'s policies and procedures. Additionally, must be able to meet the DOT service positions requirements and other duties as assigned.


Reports directly to Regional or Branch Manager.

Requirements:

Puts safety first in all aspects of the job: at the branch, at the customer site and on the road while driving.
Excellent Customer Service skill: courteous and friendly, mindful of customer property and always ready to help the customer get the most out of their Lakes Gas experience.
Knows all aspects of the Lakes Gas training program and uses learned expertise and field experience to provide input to improve the training program.
Capable of taking instruction and knows how to tactfully improve on those instructions as necessary.
Accepts manager directed workload but won’t hesitate to ask for more if dissatisfied. Lakes Gas is looking for both a follower and a leader.
Must be organized and efficient.


EXPECTATIONS FOR SINGLE AXEL DELIVERY TRUCKS:

Winter workload standard will be determined by Regional Manager and customer demand plus weekend work as required.
Bobtail will be maintained in excellent condition, ready for all delivery situations and subject to no-notice spot check inspections.
Vehicle readiness is never a question and always an example.
SAFE DRIVING AWARENESS, high sense of road conditions and driveway maneuvering:
The mindset must be that these are number one priorities at all times to be successful in the operation of a delivery truck.
Maintain DOT Hours of Service Work Requirements.
Adjust scheduling to allow variance when the Governor recognizes a Waiver of Time for DOT
Hours of service.


MINIMUM ANNUAL EXPECTED WORK REQUIREMENTS

The Assistant Manager’s should expect to be scheduled for routed deliveries on a daily basis from the period of January 1st through March 31st. The Regional Manager may adjust the work schedule throughout the year as needed to meet needs of the branch and the company. The Assistant Manager needs to recognize that their compensation for performing non-delivery tasks will be tied to a commission payment, (see the compensation section). The more tasks an Assistant Manager is qualified to perform increases the options and potential commission an Assistant Manager can earn and advance.


LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS

Valid state driver’s license.
Valid Class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver’s License, HAZMAT endorsement, Tanker endorsement and does not have air brake restrictions.
Valid Department of Transportation physical examination certification.
Completion of Department of Transportation HAZMAT training program every three years.
No moving violations for reckless or operating under the influence.
A motor vehicle record (MVR) review will be conducted annually to determine if a driver is qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with regulations as defined in Section 391.25 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Must qualify for insurability by the company's insurance carrier.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test prior to employment.
Subject to passing random drug and/or alcohol tests per DOT and company policies.
Traffic violations, whether on-the-job or off-the-job may impact employment status. If driver incurs an incident which could affect their DOT license such as DUI, reckless or careless driving, etc. It needs to be reported to the Regional Manager as soon as possible, but no later than the start of the next business day.
Must abide by the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986 and notify both employer and the state that issued the driver's license of all traffic violations (other than parking violations), including those committed in a personal vehicle, for which driver forfeited collateral or was convicted, within 30 days after conviction.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Must be capable of working in extreme temperatures, humidity and other environmental conditions as the majority of the job functions are spent outdoors in the elements.
Must have physical dexterity in limbs and digits and be free of impairment of the use of a foot, leg, hand, finger or an arm or other structural defects of limitations likely to interfere with the ability to safely control a fuel delivery vehicle and perform regular daily tasks.
Must be able to normally articulate the back: bend, twist, rotate, squat and perform regular movements.
Must be able to distinguish between yellow, red and green colored objects.
Must be capable of sitting and traveling for a couple hours at a time without stopping.
Must be capable of pulling a delivery hose out a distance of 150 feet (minimum force requires 75 pounds).
Must be able to lift two full 100 pound cylinders (approximately 200 lbs. each, one at a time) from the ground on to a pick-up truck bed and position upright for travel.
Must be able to carry two 33 pound steel cylinders, one in each hand, a distance of 50 feet within 30 seconds before setting them down.
Must be capable to climb a 20 rung ladder.
Must be able to climb up and down from a delivery truck (ground to cab, cab to ground) repeatedly each delivery day.
Must be capable of lifting 85 pounds to shoulder height without any stress.


COMPANY SPECIFIC STANDARDS

Maintain driver records such as time cards, physicals and driver logs.
Must ensure proper loading and securing of freight from origin to destination.
Must adhere to Company Policies and Procedures.
Normal working hours are Monday through Friday business hours, in addition, must be able to be on call rotation a week at a time.
Must be able to make After Hours customer calls and attend company functions when needed.
Must report all accidents involving driver or company equipment to manager the day of the incident.
Complete invoices, give to the customer and collect payment if required.
Must follow specific procedures when turning in daily work.
Must be accountable for all sales, inventory and payments.
Must be able to travel and stay overnight at the company expense.
Must present appropriate appearance and personal cleanliness to convey a positive image of the company to the general public.
Must adhere to Company Uniform policy.
Must wear un-tattered, serviceable pants, and appropriate footwear to work.
Tobacco and alcohol free at all times while working.


JOB SAFETY STANDARDS

Must be able to demonstrate a safety-minded attitude that is aware of the surroundings.
Must wear heavy rubber coated safety gloves when handling propane gas.
Must wear ice traction spikes when snow or ice exist on the ground.
Long pants, good footwear, approved shirts and jackets are to be worn on all company activities. The exception is tank painting when clothing may be modified.
Eye protection must be worn when power tools are being incorporated in the job.
Will be scheduled to remove snow and ice from all sidewalks and walking areas.
Need to investigate driveways, or close quarter situations on foot when conditions are such that the area is challenging to maneuver a vehicle.
Not putting people or property at risk.
All new tank installation where trenching occurs must have a ONE CALL LOCATION/ (Call before you dig) service performed prior to any ground disturbance occurring.

Ability to prioritize work load and assist co-workers.
Complete sales to walk in customers as needed.
Perform deliveries at the customer site with great respect of the customer and their property.
Willing to help customer and not expect another person to do it.
Informs Regional manager of sales lead.
Perform all other tasks as required by the supervisor.
Reports performance problems and brings workload, routing and scheduling problems to the attention of the supervisor.
Work with minimum supervision in accordance with published and verbal standards, guidelines, policies and procedures.

Additional duties as assigned to maintain the workflow and service needs of the branch.
