PRIMARY ROLE: Assist Finance Manager on all financial aspects of NAHRQ, including financial strategy, planning, and analysis of financial performance at the consolidated level. This role is based in Foster City and reports directly to the Finance Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assist in preparing consolidated financial statements and related plans and projections for the North American group companies of Obayashi Corporation ("Obayashi").
•Perform analysis of consolidated financial data to contribute to the planning and development of financial and tax strategies for NARHQ.
•Review and verify financial reports submitted by Obayashi's North American group companies ("group companies"); assist the Manager and Director of Finance with reporting to Obayashi’s global headquarters ("global HQ") in Tokyo.
•Facilitate communication between the global HQ and the finance teams of group companies regarding financial, accounting, and tax matters.
•Perform financial analysis of major construction projects undertaken by group companies.
•Coordinate with group companies and financial institutions to maintain parent company guarantees related to bonds, construction contracts, lines of credit, and letters of credit.
•Collect and compile data from group companies for J-SOX compliance; assist in follow-up communications with global HQ.
•Perform credit reviews of major business partners (clients, JV partners, etc.) of group companies.
•Prepare and organize supporting financial data for Obayashi’s tax filings, coordinating with the Accounting Department and external tax consultants.
•Assist with maintaining corporate registrations for Obayashi and its non-acquired subsidiaries in North America.
•Perform periodic financial reporting and analysis of Obayashi’s North American holding companies and non-acquired subsidiaries.
•Prepare financial planning and projections for holding companies and non-acquired subsidiaries.
•Facilitate communication with an external auditor to perform an audit for holding companies.
•Assist in communicating with an external auditor to audit the North American group companies.
•Daily and monthly cash management and monitoring for holding companies
•Assist in financial and tax due diligence processes and related activities for M&A target companies.
•Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall operations of the Finance Department.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
•8+ years of financial consolidations, accounting, tax, and financial analysis experience
•Work experience at a public international company is preferred
•CPA certification is strongly preferred; candidates currently pursuing a CPA designation are also encouraged to apply.
•Experience in the construction industry or a related industry is preferred.
SKILLS:
•Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written in both Japanese and English
•Proficient in accounting software such as QuickBooks or other ERP
