Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Assistant Field Superintendent to lead and coordinate field operations across multiple project sites. This individual will be responsible for supervising foremen and field teams, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality standards are met. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical construction (piping and sheet metal) and possess hands-on leadership skills to support crews directly in the field.
Key Responsibilities
•Team Supervision & Leadership
•Directly supervise 4–6 Foremen, each overseeing a crew of approximately 3 employees (total team size ~24).
•Oversee the direction, coordination, and evaluation of field operations.
•Execute supervisory duties in line with company policies and all applicable laws.
•Provide training, assign tasks, review performance, manage discipline, and support resolution of personnel issues.
•Work collaboratively with Senior Field Superintendents and Field Superintendents on staff development and conflict resolution.
•Project & Productivity Oversight
•Monitor field labor productivity and provide on-site guidance to maintain efficiency.
•Coordinate labor, materials, and scheduling to align with project timelines.
•Support field mechanics in sequencing tasks and identifying material needs.
•Offer “hands-on” assistance for key installations such as boilers, chillers, air handling units, fans, pumps, and other critical HVAC and plumbing systems.
•Assist in training new foremen and mechanics through both classroom sessions and on-site mentorship.
•Provide support for troubleshooting and addressing post-installation service calls as needed.
•Monitor and optimize the use of rental equipment.
•Work with Field Superintendents to manage company vehicles and ensure their proper use.
•Oversee subcontractor performance and progress to meet quality and scheduling benchmarks.
•Recommend salary adjustments to Senior Field Superintendents based on performance evaluations.
•Ensure timely procurement and delivery of tools and materials according to project needs.
•Manage and supervise temporary workers, maintaining the same performance standards expected of full-time employees.
•Enforce SPC’s safety policies across all job sites.
•Conduct weekly toolbox talks and site safety inspections to promote a culture of safety.
Qualifications
•At least 5 years of related construction experience and/or training; mechanical trade experience preferred.
•Read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, and schematics.
•Write reports and communicate effectively in writing.
•Solve practical, on-site problems and make sound decisions.
•Interpret and execute instructions delivered in written, oral, diagram, or schematic form.
•Apply basic math and reasoning in day-to-day project execution.
