Description
The Assistant Civil Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer, supporting project teams in developing high-quality designs for new projects, modifications, and redevelopments across various overhead high-voltage transmission line projects. This role involves close collaboration with the project team throughout the design and construction phases, ensuring that transmission line plans align with budget constraints, design specifications, and client requirements. The Assistant Civil Engineer will focus on the design of overhead high-voltage transmission lines, contributing to the evolving market influenced by technological advancements and policy changes. These projects involve partnerships with utilities to design, plan, and modernize the electric grid.
•Assist in the design of high-voltage (69–765kV) transmission line projects, from conceptual planning through detailed design and completion.
•Assist in preparation of documents required for project scoping, estimating, and planning, including regulatory and legal filings.
•Assist in the design of transmission line components based on project requirements set by managers, including plan and profile drawings, structure load diagrams, and foundation drawings.
•Assist in developing construction packages, including construction drawings, bills of materials, and other documentation necessary for procurement and installation.
•Apply foundational knowledge of civil and structural engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the industry.
•Assist in correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers.
•Support client presentations, vendor drawing reviews, and contract administration for high-voltage transmission line designs.
•Assist in conducting field inspections, measurements, and calculations for both public and private clients.
Qualifications
•Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required or,
•Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.
•Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
•Basic knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
•Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
•Basic computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and civil/structural analysis programs.
•Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
•Demonstrated leadership skills.
•Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
•Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
•Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
•Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
