Job Summary Job Description
Under close supervision, in accordance with the Station Operating License, Technical Specifications, and Operating Procedures, operates water treatment equipment; performs chemistry and radiochemistry analysis; maintains logs of routine operation and analysis; performs duties such as:
- Collecting, preparing and analyzing samples of various gases, water, oil, and waste systems, as assigned;
- Performing instrument calibration and quality control checks;
- Performing radiological surveys in support of chemistry and radiochemistry sampling and analyses;
- Initiating clear and concise work requests for maintenance and repair of equipment, forwarding to designated personnel for approval;
- Adhering to ALARA principles;
- Operating Company vehicles, as assigned;
- Assisting in the performance of testing of Station equipment and systems;
- Participating in training and retraining programs, as directed;
- Being a member of the Station Fire Brigade, when assigned;
- Ensuring the work area and equipment are in good order and cleaned up after completion of work;
- Instructing and training employees in the work;
- Being responsible for the preparation of records in connection with the work;
- Assisting in reporting errors, and making suggestions for improvements of Station procedures and tests;
- Reporting abnormal conditions observed or encountered such as: abnormal operating conditions, safety conditions and violations of security procedures;
- Performing all work in accordance with prescribed safety rules and regulations, and those associated with Station emergency procedures;
- Performing similar or less skilled duties, as assigned; and
- Working with employees in higher classifications and performing other duties in accordance with the Section of the Foreword to the Job Manual entitled “Duties”
Must have two (2) years’ experience in chemistry, or the equivalent;
- Must be a high school graduate, having completed courses in physics, chemistry, and algebra, or the equivalent, and must have the following prescribed courses, or the equivalent:
- General chemistry,
- Qualitative chemistry, and
- Quantitative chemistry;
- Must demonstrate he/she can operate laboratory equipment;
- Must be familiar with:
- The principles of operations of laboratory equipment;
- The quantitative and qualitative analyses procedures employed in the laboratory;
- Must be physically well-coordinated in order to perform the test procedures employed in the laboratory;
- Must satisfactorily progress in and complete the prescribed training courses required by the Company, or any regulatory agency, and
- Must be able to operate a company motor vehicle in accordance with its safety regulations and hold a valid State of Ohio, Bureau of Motor Vehicles operator’s license.
