Process Combustion Systems Inc. (PCSI), located in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking applications to fill a full‑time position of Apprenticeship Instrumentation and Combustion Technician – Industrial Fired Equipment.This role primarily involves providing field services including: burner performance testing/tuning, working with Burner Management and Combustion Control systems (PLC and Canned Logic based), and troubleshooting/servicing industrial burner control systems. Additionally, the successful candidate will engage in office tasks such as preparing project documentation, PLC and HMI programming, assisting with Factory Acceptance Testing, and conducting shop calibration and configuration of transmitters, control valves, and VFDs.

PCSI maintains a full engineering contingent in Calgary which is also our center for Sales, Manufacturing, Testing and Services.
- On site commissioning of industrial fired equipment and surrounding instrumentation including VFDs, transmitters, control valves, standalone loop controllers;
- Interpreting electrical schematics, P&ID and SAMA diagrams;
- Development of project documentation including control narratives, shutdown keys, commissioning and service reports, trips and alarms lists, factory acceptance tests procedures;
- Installation, calibration, configuration of industrial transmitters including temperature, pressure, level, flow, flue gas analyzers;
- Maintain a flexible schedule and ability to work overtime to meet project and startup schedules;
- Travel and site work approximately 50% of your work week; and
- Primary travel within western Canada, with some travel into USA as well as international;
Appropriate Background and Experience for Candidates being considered:
- Level 3 or higher apprenticeship OR industrial instrumentation program certificate from a recognized Western Canadian technical school.
- Previous industrial combustion equipment experience – heaters / boilers / process furnaces and other fired process equipment considered an asset;
- Familiarity with Canadian Gas Codes B149.3 and B149.1 – gasfitter or electrical ticket is also an asset;
- PLC application, implementation and programming experience – Rockwell, Modicon and others considered an asset;
- Burner management systems and combustion control system familiarity; and
- Plant commissioning experience (site acceptance testing, loop checks and associated documentation).
