Pea River Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Apprentice/Third Class Line Technician. This is an entry level, full-time, non-exempt position that will enable an employee with a Pre-Apprentice Electrical Line Worker Certification and limited experience in power line work to gain the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to progress to a Journey/First Class Line Technician. Apprentice Line Technicians are expected to learn the Line Technician job through on-the-job training as well as through classroom-type training provided by the Cooperative and must demonstrate competencies through assessment and/or job evaluation to progress to more advanced Line Technician classifications.
- Must perform duties in compliance with all safety policies, regulations and procedures with no shortcuts and have a safety-first mindset.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have successfully completed a Pre-Apprentice Electrical Line worker certification course or have equivalent job experience as an Apprentice Line Technician.
- Must be able to travel for training purposes, meetings, or to aid other electric cooperatives, as required.
- Must demonstrate excellent work quality, integrity, and diligence to ensure the safety and reliability of the distribution system.
- Must be willing and able to climb a power pole.
- Must be able to work after hours, nights, and weekends as needed as well as eventually take rotating on-call duties.
- Class A Commercial driver’s license (CDL) is required.
- Must have or be willing to obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Pole Top Rescue.
- Must live within proximity of the service territory or be willing to relocate within the first 6 months of employment.
- Must be willing and able to work on the fiber distribution system including construction and maintenance as needed.
- Must have basic knowledge of methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of an electric line distribution infrastructure.
- Must assist in constructing and maintaining electrical overhead and underground lines and equipment as authorized.
- Must operate a line truck, bucket truck, and other construction equipment as authorized.
- Must work from a bucket truck and climb poles as needed to construct and repair electric distribution system as authorized.
- Must be able to respond to power outages, emergency situations, and customer concerns after-hours.
- Must be willing to perform other work of this or any other classifications, requiring equal or lesser skills when assigned by supervisor.
