Job Title: Apprentice Line Technician I
Department: Operations
Location: Orange Beach, AL
Description of Responsibilities:
•Upgrade distribution lines by reconducting three-phase feeders and other equipment and constructing new lines.
•Effectively conduct overhead and underground line construction, operation, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system.
•Respond to secondary callout on an as-needed basis. Call-out is limited to responding as an employee, in addition to a fully qualified crew.
•Read and understand geographical maps, staking sheets, specification sheets, complex diagrams, and all circuits in the system.
•Learn to climb poles readily and work satisfactorily on poles in routine construction under close supervision.
•Clean, restock, and inspect trucks daily.
•Assist journeymen as needed in performing their work.
•Operate specialized equipment and tools daily.
Minimum Requirements:
•High School Diploma or equivalent.
•Must have at least one to six months of prior electric distribution experience.
•Must be able to understand line construction.
•Must be able to complete daily reports such as truck reports, time sheets, and material data reports.
•Ability to interact courteously and professionally with the public and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during work.
•Knowledge of work methods, occupational hazards, and safety codes for performing line crew operations and maintenance work.
•Utilize software applications, including work order systems, Microsoft Office programs, and smart devices.
•Must complete and maintain requirements for Class A CDL.
•Valid driver's license required.
•Must have or receive CPR and First Aid certification.
Working Conditions
•Work is performed primarily outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
•Position requires competing demands; may require occasional work beyond regular business hours.
•Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment.
