SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Analyst, Geographic Information System (GIS) organizes, coordinates and participates in the development and implementation of SaskEnergy’s geographic information system; providing analysis, expertise, support, assistance and guidance to SaskEnergy’s staff and external contacts.

Position Details

Core Responsibilities
GIS Systems and Technology
•Consult with business groups to identify new GIS data and software requirements.
•Coordinate and lead the process for individual data and application development projects.
•Provide user role definition and administration.
•Author and publish content within the operations of the GIS system.
•Design, develop, test, document and certify functionality requirements for GIS applications, programs and systems.
•Participate as a subject matter expert on information technology project teams.
•Coordinate vendors/consultants to accomplish plan tasks in order to meet user, data and software requirements, including the preparation of scope of work documents for engaging these external vendors.
•Coordinate database development activities with database administrators in the Information Systems department.
•Design and implement end-user training plans.
•Assist in delivering training for GIS software and databases.
•Provide support and guidance to GIS system users within and external to the GIS department.
•Provide support for cartographic design and high quality map production, including creating map layouts and views and generating maps and reports.
GIS Analysis
•Perform spatial and data analyses and generate results, reports, maps, etc. from the GIS and related software and subsystems.
•Diagnose and troubleshoot problems experienced with the use of GIS and related software.
•Provide support for GIS data conversion.
•Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy; identify and provide solutions for errors or omissions in the data.
GIS Data Maintenance
•Integrate new spatial data into the GIS.
•Updating existing versions of GIS data from internal and external sources into the GIS database.
•Develop and implement data quality control procedures.
•Input, maintain and work with GIS data and in multiple database environments (e.g. testing, development, production).
•Capture GIS data using GPS and other means.
•Catalog and inventory GIS data products, including metadata creation.
Administration
•Participate in the development, documenting and updating of GIS procedures, standards and processes.
Qualifications
Education
•Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or an Advanced Diploma in GIS Applications (includes related educational prerequisites).
•Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Experience
•Two (2) years GIS experience using GIS technology obtained within the last four (4) years.
Alternative Education/Experience
•If there are no qualified applicants as noted above, an applicant may be selected and appointed as based upon the following qualifications.
•Degree in Science (Geography).
•Four (4) years GIS experience using GIS technology obtained within the last five (5) years.
•Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
