Job Description AltaGas - Manager, Market Risk
We’re looking for a strategic and collaborative leader to join our Risk Management team as Manager, Market Risk. This is a high-impact opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead a talented team, partner across the business, and elevate the visibility and value of market risk within a dynamic and evolving organization.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and develop a high-performing Market Risk team, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented culture that supports both individual development and team excellence
- Act as a strategic partner to the business, elevating the visibility of market risk across the organization and building strong cross-functional relationships to support informed decision-making and operational alignment
- Prepare and review daily risk reporting packages—including mark-to-market (MTM), Gross Margin at Risk (GMaR), and price exposures—ensuring accuracy and clarity for a broad audience
- Translate complex risk metrics into actionable insights through clear communication and compelling visual presentations
- Collaborate with Front, Middle, and Back Office teams to ensure accurate valuation and reporting of commodity transactions
- Develop and enhance price models, valuation tools, and reconciliation frameworks to support commodity risk analysis and reporting
- Analyze internal and external market data to support valuation models and assess future commodity risks
- Lead integration efforts for new businesses into AltaGas’ ETRM system (Allegro Horizon), identifying key risks and supporting implementation
- Manage ad hoc projects related to commodity transactions, strategic initiatives, and prospective deal evaluations
- Minimum 7 years of experience in energy trading, with direct exposure to middle office and/or trading roles
- Proven leadership experience, with a track record of mentoring and developing high-performing teams
- Strong understanding of energy commodity markets, particularly NGL and Crude Oil
- Expertise in market risk modeling techniques including option models, volatility measures, GMaR, back-testing, and stress scenarios
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and business intelligence tools such as Power BI
- Experience presenting risk insights to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
- A degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or Engineering
- Familiarity with ETRM systems—experience with Allegro Horizon is a strong asset
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL is highly desirable
- Experience in credit risk is considered a valuable asset for cross-functional insights
