EPCOR's Corporate Services division is pleased to announce a permanent, full-time vacancy for the position of Public Engagement Advisor. This role will be part of the Communications & Public Engagement team, operating out of the Rossdale Water Treatment Plant in Edmonton, Alberta.

As a Public Engagement Advisor, you will play a key role in managing and executing public and community engagement strategies that support EPCOR's capital projects. This dynamic position involves creating and implementing effective engagement plans, fostering relationships with key audiences, addressing emerging concerns, and developing clear, accessible communication materials from complex technical sources. You will oversee engagement tools such as public inquiry phone lines, email communication and stakeholder databases, ensuring smooth and effective operations. In this role, you will be instrumental in identifying community issues, proactively addressing them and building strong connections with internal clients to deliver strategic, audience-focused solutions. With outcomes that span from short-term objectives to multi-year goals, this role requires adaptability, creativity, and a commitment to cultivating positive community relations.

What you’d be responsible for

You are accountable to Consultation Manager and will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these) as prescribed by the Public & Community Engagement Senior Manager:


Developing plans and managing day-to-day activities related to assigned engagement projects. This includes working with internal clients to develop solutions that meet business needs and support EPCOR’s brand and reputation.
Developing and updating materials relevant to stakeholder engagement projects.
Supporting development and execution of stakeholder engagement plans, programs and materials. Executing tactics that may include writing, photography, video, social media and other communications channels/formats.
Supporting and executing on key communications and engagement initiatives/events and other projects as assigned by the Manager, Consultation.
Managing incoming stakeholder phone calls and emails from consultation contact channels, including tracking all external communications in our stakeholder tracking system.
Generating reports on project metrics and ensuring the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of any relevant stakeholder databases, as assigned.
Acting as an on-call, after-hours media spokesperson on a rotating weekly basis with other communicators.


What’s required to be successful


Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are:


Completion of a diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Social Sciences or a related field from a recognized post-secondary educational institute.
+ Applicants with a degree in public relations, communications (or related) may be considered as well.
Experience that includes:
+ 4 years’ in stakeholder engagement and/or communication. + Working in the utilities, electricity or the energy sector. + Knowledge and use of current digital channels and engagement platforms. + Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Photoshop, Microsoft SharePoint.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Strong research, writing and editing skills; well-developed attention to detail.
Demonstrated collaborative approach, including ability to build relationships and work with employees at all levels of the organization.
Applies effective communications / public relations fundamentals to every project.
Engaged in digital / web concepts, techniques and trends.

Note that candidates that do not meet the 4 years of experience may be considered for a Developmental Level appointment with at least 2 years related experience

Wage: Starting at $47.18 per hour

Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the CA that may be found online.
If a candidate is hired at the developmental level starting wage will be determined based on experience at the time of selection.

Hours of work: 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday

A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)

Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file.
