Wood’s Vibration, Dynamics and Noise (VDN) group is currently seeking a Sr. Field Engineer to join our Calgary, Canada office within the Field Engineering team. This position require traveling to client facilities approximately 30% of the time.

•Provide FET’s and RER’s core services with higher technical capabilities.
•Understand tools (data acquisition equipment) and theory behind analysis
•Understanding of rotating machinery and piping system excitation forces and design basics.
•Basic understanding of rotating equipment design basics, failure modes, etc.
•Competent to run vibration and performance monitoring program independently including building, executing and provide improvements to the program.
•Competent to use and implement condition monitoring techniques including vibration, performance, lube oil, thermography, etc.
•Competent to perform complex troubleshooting projects that require exploring new concepts, tools, etc.
•Competent to provide technical support on projects and able to review other’s work/reports
•Support team remotely and at site on field project for technical guidance and training purpose
•Provide training and mentoring to team members to meet their professional and personal development goals
•Specialized in at least one of the FET services as the go to person to provide support and technical guidance
•Effective project management to ensure on time delivery of the projects, within scope and budget, while meeting client’s expectations
•Ensure that projects are executed via established project management processes
•Ensure administrative processes and systems such as time keeping, work instructions, scheduling, and documentation control are maintained
•Ensure projects are invoiced at the time of project completion
•Ensure that the productivity meets key metrics which are evaluated based on billability, revenue, GM and variance
•Ensure good communication with the client including project updates, scope changes and additional budget requirement, etc.
•Stay update on projects and able to identify gaps and provide support needed to avoid variance and unnecessary delays on the projects
•Conduct post project meetings with the project team to discuss the achievements and shortcomings for future improvement
•Good communication with supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates about work and schedule
•Maintain a healthy relationship with team members based on mutual respect and maintaining core values
•Ensure personal goals align to the overall strategic growth plan for FET and VDN
•Ensure complying to the HSSEA policies and procedure
•Proactive involvement in contacting customers (customer relationships) and addresses customer issues and present positive image of Wood
•Visits to customers to develop support plans, training, staffing, conflicts, customized requirements, relationship building when possible
•Make every effort to ensure project reports are presented to the customers in person as preference otherwise over the web
•Support the development and review of proposals and tenders, ensuring the submission reflects the correct company business process and capabilities, and meets the appropriate commercial thresholds
•Build and maintain customer relationships necessary for effective client communication and opportunity growth
•Ensure project follow-up are effective and provide support to team members for these follow-up
•Present at seminars, conferences and lunch & learns on technical topics and able to comfortably discuss VDN capabilities
•Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering (Bachelors or above) is required
•Candidates with 5+ years of work experience in either an operating facility or Engineering Consulting firm are highly preferred
•Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with APEGA is required
•Good knowledge of vibration fundamentals and ability to investigate and troubleshoot vibration problems, with an understanding of performance, reliability, and maintenance issues
•Ideally have experience with multi-channel data acquisition systems and their software
•Knowledge and experience in some form of root cause or failure mode analyses
•Knowledge and experience in calibration methods of various transducers, e.g. vibration, pressure would be an asset
•Must have a strong interest in vibration and dynamics, performance, and reliability
•Must be detail-oriented with strong analysis skills (i.e. quickly interpret key client evidence) combined with the ability to write high quality technical reports
•Ideally understand rotating machinery including reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, reciprocating and centrifugal pumps, gas and steam turbines, gearboxes, motors, engines and other equipment
•Have an interest in acoustic theory, multiphase flow, and transients.
•Keen to develop strong consulting capability whilst engaging with clients
•A keen interest in data analytics and business intelligence tools
•Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) skills in English, combined with the ability to interact and engage with clients and internal stakeholders
•Committed to a culture of Safety in the workplace
•Must have valid Driver’s license and be available to travel to client facilities for up to 30% of the time
•Position requires up to 30% travel. Travel is mainly within Canada and USA with the some international travel. Work also includes offshore facilities
•Must be Canadian citizen or authorized to work lawfully in Canada, without sponsorship from Wood.
