Accounting Specialist, Plant Material

Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) is seeking an Accounting Specialist in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

The position is responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive financial records in compliance with the Rural Utility Standards (RUS) Uniform System of Accounts and generally accepted accounting practices. The Accounting Specialist processes and reconciles complex work orders, supports month‑end close activities, and contributes to inventory and contract accounting while collaborating extensively with other departments. Responsibility, scope of duties, and extent of independence increase progressively with each level.

The essential functions listed below are general examples and not a complete description of comprehensive duties.

- Responsible for monthly reports related to plant, including Construction Work Plan Budgeting and work order tracking.

- Respond to member inquiries and proactively communicate balance bills prior to invoicing.

- Initiate wire transfers, ACH submittals, positive‑pay files and e‑payments, and process void checks as directed by the Accounting Manager.

- Perform month‑end tasks such as manual stores allocation and closing, garage material issuance, fleet module balancing, review and reallocation of WO‑1 charges, and capitalization of special equipment.

Qualifications:

- Accounting Specialist I: High school diploma with 2 years of experience or associate degree

- Accounting Specialist II: Associate with 2 years experience or bachelor's with 0-1 year; RUS preferred

- Accounting Specialist III: Associate with 3 years experience or bachelor's with 2 years; RUS knowledge required

- Accounting Specialist Senior: Bachelor's with 4 years or Associate with 5 years in RUS accounting

- Arizona Class D driver's license required
