Operational Accountant Primary Purpose:
The Operational Accountant’s primary responsibility is to prepare journal entries, reconciliations, analysis, regulatory (FERC, EIA and state agencies) and GAAP reporting to support the Accounting Manager. The essential responsibility of the department is to provide accounting and analysis for the gross margin components of Natural Gas segments.
Senior Operational Accountant Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
•Prepare federal reporting filed with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) quarterly and annually
•Assist the Accounting Manager in enhancing business processes within the department.
•Assist the Accounting Manager with monthly, quarterly and yearly gross margin analysis
•Duties around the preparation of yearly budgets and monthly forecasts
•Prepare fuel tracker mechanisms and provide to the regulatory department
•Prepare journal entries accurately and timely for monthly accounting close
•Reconcile balance sheet accounts
•Support internal and external audits by preparing data requests
•Interact with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism
•Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully
•Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance
•Will work non-traditional hours as needed
•Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public
•Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as identified and defined
•Other duties as assigned or requested
Operational Accountant Minimum Requirements:
Education:
•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline.
Experience/Specific knowledge:
•A minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience.
•Must have a fundamental understanding of accounting and financial principles.
•Previous experience with SOX controls and processes.
•Intermediate to advanced level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Supervisory Responsibility:
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ABILITIES (above the minimum requirements; not required by advantageous in this position):
•Five (5) years of experience actively involved in a relevant and related role.
•Understanding the accounting and reporting of transactions involving natural gas transportation for FERC and GAAP.
•Familiarity and experience with Quorum and Oracle
•Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Compensation:
•The annual salary range for this position is $80,000 - $105,000/yr.
