General Summary: The Quality Technician must be self-motivated, assists in training and mentoring peers, communicates with the other shifts and is responsible for supervising the hourly workforce while monitoring daily activities of the quality area. They are responsible for the day to day activities in the quality department to ensure that product and processes conform to established specifications including, but not limited to, visual, dimensional, and mechanical specs. They are responsible for insuring results are documented and proper individuals are notified when there are non-conformities
Essential Functions:
- Prioritize work schedules; plan, organize, assign tasks and evaluate completed work.
- Recommend process improvements and other enhancements to increase operating efficiency.
- Coordinate department functions with other shifts and departments.
- Turning and pulling test bars to verify mechanical properties.
- Perform roving inspections in Finishing, Mold, Melt and Warehouse areas to verify product conformity.
- Completes required testing (brinell, sonic, etc.) at final audit station and completes container labels.
- Completes required testing (ultrasonic, brinell, etc.) at UT and Mold Dump stations.
- Understands and applies visual standard criteria.
- Visually inspects castings at final audit noting variances from visual criteria.
- Enforce quality alerts by communicating and monitoring production team members to ensure compliance.
- Prepares various samples by grinding, sanding, breaking, cooling, etc.
- Place non-conformance tags on bins being put on HOLD.
- Monitoring the proper tagging of tubs and pallets in the finishing department.
- Monitor, calibrate and adjusting programming for the UT’s and RF testing equipment.
- Uses precision measurement devices including: gauges, calipers, micrometers, and microscope.
- May be required to operate fork lift.
- Completes forms, logs and other documentation to record quality process results.
- Performs re-inspection of parts in tubs designated as non-conforming.
- Performs minor upkeep/maintenance on testing machines/equipment.
- Check for proper nodularity % via the microscope for ductile iron and help resolve issues with nodularity blocks in the metal lab.
- Keeps work area clean by performing various housekeeping activities.
- May be assigned other duties as needed.
- Required PPE: Goggles, ear plugs, steel toed boots with metatarsal guards, gloves, face shield when grinding, hard hat when at UT and mold dump stations, melt and mold departments.- 3+ years of previous experience in green sand foundry and finishing and quality department practices, principles, etc. preferred
- Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal skills
- Ability to effectively organize multiple tasks
- Knowledge and ability to utilize a PC and related software
- Use and understand gauges used in performing tasks

Work Schedule/Job Rotation/Breaks: 8 hour shifts with 4 hours overtime allowed (12 hours max) per day. (2) 15 min per shift - (1) one extra 10 min break when working 12 hours. This position as a roving auditor in all areas of the plant and quality positions.
Work Environment: Inside, noisy, dusty – sand and metal airborne particulate, vibrations from conveyors and grinders. Work in close proximity to hot parts
