The Rail Barge and Terminal Transportation Analyst is responsible for managing and optimizing rail, barge, and terminal operations to ensure efficient transportation and cost-effective solutions. This role involves vendor account management, billing, tracking movements, managing demurrage, and supporting strategic initiatives such as fleet planning and terminal development. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, negotiation capabilities, and experience in rail and barge logistics.
- Manage rail and barge billing processes accurately and timely.
- Track rail and barge movements, engage carriers for off-track cars.
- Monitor, report, and manage demurrage to minimize costs.
- Request and analyze rates from carriers for competitive pricing.
- Maintain relationships and manage accounts for rail vendors, carriers, and barge lines.
- Submit and follow up on service issues with carriers and terminals.
- Build and foster relationships with railroads, leasing companies, repair companies, barge lines, and transloading companies.
- Maintain and analyze lease car requirements; prepare proposals for fleet additions.
- Meet with leasing companies to discuss leasing opportunities.
- Facilitate on-site railcar training programs with vendors.
- Perform terminal reconciliation for accuracy and compliance.
- Investigate and set up new terminal locations to support business growth.
Maintain real estate leases for rail crossings, sidings, and terminal land.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or other related field.
- Experience: 5+ years in rail/barge logistics or transportation management.- Travel : 10-15%
- Strong knowledge of rail and barge operations.
- Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Analytical mindset with ability to manage cost controls and KPIs.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Salary range for this position is $63,000 - $70,000
