The City of New Westminster, Parks and Recreation Department and Community Services Department run a variety of programs for children ages 3 - 12 years. We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals in providing fun, inclusive programs for children with disabilities. As a One to One Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing support to children with diverse abilities participating in our programs. This role is a key part in encouraging and integrating our child participants with varying abilities.
The program with the highest needs for this role is our Discovery Playtime program, which is a recreational preschool age play-based program at təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre and Queensborough Community Centre. This program runs weekday mornings. Opportunities may also be available at Anvil Centre and within other programs including: Dance, Art, Cooking, Baking, Science, Sports, Day Camps, and more.
- Provide one to one support for children with diverse abilities
- Help participants be safe and successful in a healthy environment
- Modify instruction and work with children individually and in small groups
- General support in the delivery of programs
- Demonstration of effective leadership and teamwork skills
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work, plus related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Experience working with social, cultural and recreational needs of children with varying abilities
- Experience providing excellent customer service to children with diverse abilities and behavioral needs
- Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills
- Passion for working with children
