Job Summary
The Manager, Plant Accounting is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting for Tenaska power plant partnerships. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely plant partnership financial statements. The Manager – Plant Accounting works with Plant Controller to ensure that work is completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, financial compliance with debt and equity agreements, and the support of budget and forecast activities.
Essential Job Functions
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure for plant operations and maintenance ledger and the partnership entity ledger.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and year-to-date financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, statement of members’ equity and statement of cash flows for plant Partnership entities.
- Review budget-to-actual variance analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis and summarize and report budget to actual variance analysis to senior management, partners and lending institutions.
- Coordinate and prepare the monthly customer billing, monitor and ensure timely collection of customer receivables.
- Coordinate, compile and submit required compliance certificates, quarterly and annual financial statements, and respond to inbound inquiries from financial institutions and/or rating agencies such as S&P, Moody’s etc. in conjunction with outstanding debt obligations and/or working capital credit facilities.
- Prepare detailed budget/reforecast projections using budgeting software and Excel and coordinating this effort with Plant Controllers, department heads and senior management.
- Provides technical accounting guidance and support to Plant Controllers.
- Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes to ensure Plant practices are in line with overall goals of the organization.
- Oversight and mentoring of junior accountant(s) and the ability to delegate work and responsibility to staff members or colleagues.
- Ensures that company financial records, under responsibility, are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance.
- Manage and execute year-end financial audits for partnerships, working with independent accountants.
- Establish priorities to meet deadlines and goals within guidelines established by management.
- Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with all levels throughout the organization.
- Create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
- Develop, implement and maintain system controls for fraud prevention and ensuring data integrity.
- Oversight to ensure accurate and timely payment processing.
- Predictable, reliable and dependable attendance is a requirement of the position.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5+ years’ experience- CPA a plus
- Prior experience effectively hiring, motivating and managing a team required
- Strong aptitude for end-to-end process design and improvement
- Strong understanding of financial and operational controls
- Strong attention to details and accuracy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are all required
- Knowledge and administration of general ledger systems and procedures, preferably Microsoft Great Plains / Business Central software
