Reporting to the Director, Supply Chain and Real Estate Law and Legal Operations, this is a primarily commercial legal position providing legal advice on commercial and supply chain management related matters (including major categories of supply chain, construction and engineering agreements and other commercial matters including customs and tariffs, as well as potentially providing support to the Real Estate Department with respect to leases, purchases and sales, and other commercial agreements) as required on projects and operational matters across the Natural Gas and Power & Storage business units. Effective collaboration with corporate/commercial and other legal colleagues will be required.
- Provide support, guidance, and drafting from a commercial perspective, with respect to a wide variety of supply chain management agreements, issues and strategies
- Work independently on legal matters and projects
- Review third-party forms of agreements and negotiate various matters on TC Energy's behalf
- Provide advice and strategy to Supply Chain Management clients with respect to interpretation of contracts and early dispute resolution, drafting of settlement agreements and releases
- Co-ordinate and manage the provision of legal services with other internal resources and external legal counsel where issues require specific expertise
- Assist in the development of standardized or complex agreements, processes and policies
- Assist in the review and drafting of commercial real estate agreements (leases, amendments, purchase and sale agreements)
- Provide support to the broader Supply Chain and Real Estate Law and Legal Operations group as required
- Other tasks as required.
- Law degree from a Canadian accredited law school
- At least 10 years of total legal experience including a minimum of 5 years of direct commercial, supply-chain law experience and direct experience working on commercial real estate and/or construction and project related matters would also be an asset although candidates with a different combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong communication and advocacy skills, both oral and written
- Strong commercial/business acumen
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to support diverse client groups and handle multiple files
- Ability to develop practical business solutions
- Demonstrated ability to be lead counsel on complex matters
- Demonstrated ability to complete complex legal tasks within tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently as well as in a team environment
- Experience and understanding of the energy/pipeline industry and
- An ability and willingness to travel within North America as required.
