As we are continuously growing, we are looking for a DOT Compliance Specialist to join our passionate team.
The DOT Compliance Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring company-wide DOT compliance, driver accountability, and fleet operations effectiveness. This position monitors and analyzes leading and lagging safety indicators, supports driver training, manages daily compliance activity via Samsara, and coordinates closely with fleet vendors and internal stakeholders to uphold safety, legal, and performance standards.
- Compile data from Samsara (e.g., harsh braking, mobile use, following distance, hours of service (HOS) logs for violations, unassigned time, and personal conveyance misuse, cycle limit, missed rest breaks, shift driving limit and missed certifications) for the Weekly Compliance Snapshot and the Monthly Regional Meetings.
- Coordinate directly with drivers to address violations, and provide coaching aligned with company policies to ensure timely corrective actions.
- Assign training modules and track completion in Samsara to promote behavioral improvement.
- Assign drivers appropriately based on qualifications and compliance status.
- Follow-up, document and close out all coaching infractions.
- Navigate and troubleshoot Samsara, Fleetio, Foley, WEX, and related platforms; train users to improve adoption and accuracy.
- Track equipment inspections, fault codes, and coordinate with internal staff on resolution.
- Manage and audit daily Hours of Service compliance, including login issues, unassigned drive time, shift limit violations, and misuse of personal convenience, cycle limit, missed rest breaks, shift driving limit and missed certifications.
- Track DOT violations and provide insights into lagging and leading safety indicators.
- Assists with IFTA/IRP tracking and fuel reporting documentation as needed.
- Maintain all DOT and non-DOT vehicle registrations.
- Maintains accurate vehicle and driver data to support internal audits and external DOT reviews.
- Partners with operations and HR to identify non-compliance risks and execute corrective action plans.
- Work with HR to establish and enforce fleet-related policies and procedures, including corrective actions for vehicle misuse or safety violations.
- Schedule post incident drug testing with local laboratories.
- Supports the development and refinement of fleet safety policies and SOPs.
- Responsible for managing collision repair of all vehicles from inception of accident to final repair.
- Liaison with insurance broker on claim loss runs.At Dakota, we take on and execute some of the most challenging access projects in the country. To help us successfully execute our projects, we are looking for a DOT Compliance Specialist with these qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in fleet compliance, DOT operations, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Samsara (preferred), Fleetio, WEX, and Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong interpersonal and coaching skills with the ability to influence safe behavior.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to audit data and generate actionable reports.
- Self-starter who can work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Clear communicator with experience explaining policies and procedures to frontline staff.
