Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Power BI Developer / Business Analyst in our Tempe or Goodyear office who is passionate about using technology to improve public health and protect the environment. This role focuses on the design and delivery of practical, maintainable business intelligence solutions centered around Power BI for municipal water and wastewater utilities across the country.
You’ll work alongside engineers, planners, and scientists to translate user needs into intuitive data models and dashboards. We're looking for someone who combines foundational data engineering and semantic modeling skills with a strong grasp of front-end report design. Your ability to understand business processes, communicate with stakeholders, and deliver well-structured Power BI solutions is key.
Majority of your work will be focused on projects with clients in Arizona, interfacing with utility managers, engineers, operators, and IT departments. You will also participate in the corporate BI and digital services team to collaborate and share knowledge with other data scientists and developers at Hazen. Key Responsibilities:
•Lead or guide the development and implementation of end-to-end BI solutions throughout their lifecycle.
•Direct hands-on involvement in designing and implementing ETL processes, data pipelines, data models, measures, and visualizations to construct intuitive and high-performing dashboards for diverse stakeholders.
•Engage closely with project teams to define requirements, design tailored implementation strategies, and deliver quality products to clients both internal and external.
•Contribute to the development and maintenance of testing protocols, technical documentation, and training materials to support system users.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related STEM field.
•Master's degree in STEM OR equivalent practical experience preferred.
•1-3 years of work experience in data engineering, Power BI development, or business analytics
•Proficiency in Power Query (M), DAX, basic SQL and Python.
•Excellent communication skills; able to translate between technical and business language..
•Detail-oriented with good judgment and an independent, problem-solving mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Microsoft Power BI certification.
•Exposure to Azure services (e.g., Synapse, Data Factory, SQL DB) or Power Platform tools (Power Automate, Power Apps).
•Coursework or experience in environmental science, water quality, systems engineering, or logistics.
•Ability to apply UI/UX and visual design principles to build clear, impactful dashboards.
•Proficiency with GIS and ESRI are a plus.
