The Shop Lead (Intake / Exhaust Frames) plays a pivotal role in the turbine packaging process, overseeing the precise installation of combustion-intake ducts, exhaust frames, seals, and associated hardware within.
This position ensures that all assemblies meet stringent alignment and torque specifications, providing a critical foundation for downstream heavy lifts.
The Shop Lead (Intake / Exhaust Frames) will utilize specialized tooling and fixtures, including 5–10-ton cranes, spreader bars, tag lines, and gauge tools, to execute complex fit-ups safely and efficiently.
Beyond technical execution, the role demands strong leadership to mentor technicians, enforce safety and quality standards, and maintain workflow continuity across multiple bays.

- Lead the installation of combustion-intake ducts, exhaust frames, seals, and associated hardware according to engineering specifications.
- Perform precise torquing and fit-up of components to ensure structural integrity and compliance with tolerances.
- Verify all labels, part numbers, and traveler documentation for accuracy before installation.
- Manage S3 kit activities, ensuring all components are staged, inspected, and ready for assembly.
- Execute S0M delta work, including:
- Pre-fitting small duct transitions on-bay.
- Cutting seals to length and prepping duct hardware.
- Initiate and maintain travelers for all assigned work, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability.
- Ensure precise alignment of intake and exhaust assemblies to meet downstream Bay 5 heavy lift requirements.
- Conduct in-process inspections and collaborate with Quality Assurance to resolve discrepancies.
- Apply sealants and verify proper application using gauge tools and measurement instruments.
- Safely operate cranes (5–10-ton capacity), spreader bars, and tag lines for lifting and positioning components.
- Utilize specialized fixtures, alignment tools, and torque equipment to achieve precision assembly.
- Maintain and inspect tools and equipment to ensure readiness and compliance with safety
- Act as a hands-on leader, mentoring technicians on proper assembly techniques and safety practices.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to production schedules.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback and implementing best practices.
- Enforce OHS and company safety standards, including PPE usage and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Conduct pre-lift safety checks and ensure proper rigging practices during crane operations.
- Report and document any safety incidents or near misses promptly.
- Coordinate with Engineering for technical clarifications and design adjustments.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to maintain compliance with specifications and standards.
- Communicate with Operations and Supply Chain teams regarding material availability and workflow priorities.- 5+ years in mechanical assembly or structural fabrication in heavy industrial environments - 2+ years in a leadership or lead technician role
- Associate degree or technical diploma in: Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing or related field
- 2+ years in a leadership or lead technician role- Experience in safely operating 5-10-ton cranes, spreader bars, and tag lines.
- Datum alignment and structural work for large assemblies
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and travelers
- Familiarity with S3 kit and S0M delta work processes
- Ability to coordinate with engineering and quality teams
- Experience with turbine packaging or power generation equipment
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for traveler initiation
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks
- Ability to prioritize tasks to meet assembly deadlines and manage multiple kit activities simultaneously
- Ability to troubleshoot alignment or structural issues and make quick decisions under production constraints

- Participation in safety training programs, including hazard communication, emergency response, and travel safety.
- Ensure all sales team members are trained on site-specific safety protocols when visiting customer facilities or field operations.
- Participate in any required drug and alcohol testing. This position is considered safety sensitive.
- Understand and comply with the X-Group's safety polices, safe work pos, protocols, procedures, and rules.
- Wear required safety equipment and personal protective devices, including clothing mandated by legislation and the employer.
- Ensure the worksites is free of hazards that could cause slips, trips, or falls.
- Notify supervisors of any unsafe conditions or acts that may endanger workers.
- Report all accidents and Injuries to supervisors es soon as possible.
- Take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of other workers and oneself.
- Maintain a valid Driver's License and a clean driver's abstract.
- Maintain a valid passport and can travel internationally as required.
- Maintain a clean criminal background check.
- Prolong periods of standing and walking throughout the shop floor
