General Purpose:
The Customer Service New Account Specialist plays a crucial role in managing water and wastewater customer accounts. This position is responsible for creating and closing accounts, accurately entering customer, property, and meter information, and ensuring that accounts are properly set up for billing.
The role involves frequent interactions with customers, both in person and over the phone, to address billing inquiries, process payments, and resolve service-related concerns. Additional duties include generating service orders, issuing disconnection notices, and promoting water conservation by monitoring usage reports and notifying customers.
The specialist is also responsible for documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices, thinking creatively, and demonstrating positive teamwork. Furthermore, the specialist participates in local community events to foster positive relationships between the utility and the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Enter account changes for new sign-ups and terminations. Finalize disconnects. Interact with District customers on a daily basis to create accurate new accounts for those signing contracts with the District. Verify property ownership either by customer documentation or county records. Organize files and maintain accounts so they are easy to locate and manage. Create daily work orders for meter technician. Communicate with the Engineering Division and Pretreatment in making sure all new construction, residential or business, is properly set-up and billed correctly.
•Interact with customers in office or phone to resolve billing concerns or complaints. Create service orders for customer inquiries which are given to the meter technicians. Return customer calls and make contact with customers who have requested service orders. Contacts customers regarding continuous usage alerts from the Sensus report through phone, email, and mail correspondence.
•Use CityWorks asset management platform as a communication tool with inspectors and meter technicians. Work with Data Auditor to initiate new accounts for new subdivisions and buildings. Completes N-sign report.
•Document SOPs and participate in local community events.

Prior Work Experience: At least one year of job-related prior experience preferred.
Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent required.

•Must be able to withstand occasional periods of moderate physical or mental activity.
•Must be able to work a predictable and consistent schedule. Occasional, but infrequent, overtime may be required. Minimal travel for training or other meetings.
