POSITION SUMMARY:
Marathon Petroleum Logistics is seeking an experienced Advanced GIS Analyst to support GIS data management, analysis, and mapping initiatives across all Marathon Petroleum Logistics operating areas. This role is essential in maintaining accurate GIS datasets that inform strategic decision-making across Business Development, Operations, and Compliance functions.
The Advanced GIS Analyst will be responsible for managing pipeline and other company GIS data, conducting regulatory and compliance analyses (including HCA, Spill, and Class Location assessments), and supporting state and federal reporting requirements. Additionally, this position will develop operational and specialized maps, reports, and dashboards (both web-based and hardcopy) to support various business needs.
Other key responsibilities include providing GIS support for internal applications and responding to requests from cross-functional teams such as Environmental, Land, Accounting, and Integrity. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical GIS expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments in a dynamic work environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:* Creates spatial and tabular data in the Enterprise Geographical Information System (GIS) from vendors into the correct coordinate system using basic geodetic principles; geo-references digital maps to align with real ground locations using survey monuments, GPS and other data as controls.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:* Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Computer Science, GIS, or a closely related field, demonstrating a solid foundation in geospatial sciences and their application in the oil and gas industry.
