LocationLinden, NJ
Job TypeFull-time
Salary$122,720-$122,720

About This Job

The Linden Cogeneration Plant is a 980 MW natural gas combined-cycle cogeneration facility located within the Phillips 66 Refinery in Linden, NJ. In addition to generating electricity, the plant provides process steam to the refinery. The plant is equipped with five GE 7EA gas turbine generators and one GE 7FA gas turbine generator, each exhausting into a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG). The HRSGs are connected to a common steam header, which supplies steam to three steam turbines and the adjacent refinery.

Beyond technical responsibilities, you will play a key role in upholding environmental compliance, maintaining accurate documentation, and managing spare parts inventory to support long-term plant reliability.

Your scope of responsibility as EI&C Technician will include the following primary functions:

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain instruments, control systems, and electrical equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
Perform routine inspections and assigned tasks supporting the site’s Discharge Prevention, Containment, and Countermeasures (DPCC) Plan, ensuring the safe and environmentally responsible handling of hazardous materials and waste.
Carry out preventive maintenance on major equipment, systems, and emergency backup systems to ensure operational reliability.
Monitor electrical and electronic equipment performance to anticipate failures and implement proactive corrective actions.
Inspect, install, repair, and remove electrical components, including motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries.
Ensure proper functionality and efficiency of gas turbine generator electrical equipment.
Locate, diagnose, and repair faults in electrical circuits and equipment to restore operation.
Troubleshoot electromechanical control systems to ensure proper functionality and integration.
Calibrate temperature control systems to maintain optimal operating conditions.
Analyze complex relay trip operations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Set up test apparatus on electrical equipment to verify performance and identify potential issues.
Verify proper synchronization of electrical systems and connections through phasing tests.
Perform direct current (DC) high-potential tests to evaluate insulation integrity and system reliability.
Use portable megger tests to assess insulation resistance and identify degradation.
Conduct generator rotor tests, including alternating current (AC) impedance and direct current (DC) resistance evaluations, to verify performance.
Inspect and calibrate multipoint recorders to maintain measurement accuracy.
Assess transformer health through specialized electrical tests, such as transformer turns ratio and impedance evaluations.
Operate and interpret readings from electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes and transistor checkers, to diagnose circuit issues and troubleshoot printed circuit cards.
Execute block breaker and simulated breaker failure tests to ensure system protection and fault response effectiveness.
Splice auxiliary power and control cables using proper techniques, excluding wiping lead joints.
Apply insulation to high-tension equipment using appropriate tape and insulating materials.
Interpret and create moderately complex electrical wiring and schematic diagrams for troubleshooting and installation.
Keep accurate records of equipment files, logs, and drawings for designated equipment.
Oversee spare parts inventory by forecasting needs, tracking stock, and reordering as necessary to maintain plant reliability and minimize downtime.
Support the upkeep of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
