Our client is seeking a Civil/Structural Substation Engineer on a 1099 contract basis to support substation design projects. The role involves civil and structural design for foundations, steel structures, equipment supports, grading, and site development in coordination with electrical and protection engineers.
• Develop civil/structural designs for high-voltage substation projects (69kV to 500kV).
• Prepare and review foundation and steel structure drawings for transformers, breakers, and control buildings.
• Perform structural analysis and calculations per AISC, ACI, ASCE, and utility standards.
• Provide grading, drainage, and site development plans in compliance with environmental and permitting requirements.
• Review vendor drawings, station prints, and design packages for accuracy and constructability.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (electrical, P&C, project management) to deliver integrated substation designs.
• Support preparation of construction packages, RFIs, and as-built updates.
• Ensure compliance with utility standards, IEEE, NESC, and local codes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• PE license preferred (not required but a plus).
• 5+ years of experience in civil/structural design for substations or similar utility projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, STAAD, RISA, or equivalent structural analysis software.
• Familiarity with utility standards and industry codes.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently as a contractor.
• Experience with foundation, steel, grading, and drainage design in utility environments.
• Must provide W-9 and maintain professional liability insurance
