The position will be responsible for supervising all employees on the water distribution/maintenance staff and always ensuring their safety. The DM works with management to ensure that assigned tasks are clearly communicated to the field employees, and that those tasks are carried out and completed in a timely manner. In addition, the DM is responsible for overseeing that the water distribution/maintenance staff has the proper equipment and materials to perform their assigned tasks. The DM will ensure that the proper amount of inventory and materials are always stocked and available so that there are no delays or interruptions with completing tasks. DM is responsible for ensuring that maintenance equipment is working properly and is being serviced on a routine basis. Interacting with coworkers and management to carry out the assigned tasks on a day-to-day basis is paramount for this position. In addition, the DM is responsible for leading and directing the staff under their supervision. This includes working in a team atmosphere to resolve any emerging problems associated with the delivery of water services to customers. The DM must be able to create a working atmosphere that encourages personal and professional growth while carrying out this utilities mission. The tasks that the DM is responsible for include maintenance of equipment, repairs to water mains, installation or relocation of water services, construction of new water mains, inventory of materials, servicing of equipment, safety training, inspection of construction projects and supervising employees. The DM is responsible for reporting any identified problems that cannot be corrected or resolved to the General Manager. The DM will follow communication procedures, guidelines, policies, and other duties as assigned.
Clearly and effectively communicate instructions and assignments to staff
Familiarity with construction and maintenance of water utility systems
Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of personalities
Strong communication skills to accurately and effectively identify problems
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
Must have a Class-A CDL with 57 restrictions
Must be certified through TOSHA as a “Competent Person”
Must have a Class II Water Distribution License
Must fill in for On Call or relief work when needed
The DM reports directly to the General Manager.
A minimum of 10 years of water utility experience with a preferred minimum of 2 years or greater in a leadership or supervisory role.
Preference for candidates in possession of a Grade II Distribution Operators License.
60% field environment with 40% in the office but may vary based upon open projects.
