The VP of Energy Resource Planning works under the general direction of the SVP Chief Energy Resource Officer (CERO). In collaboration with the CERO, manages the procurement, delivery, management and optimization of wholesale power supply. This position actively works with other cooperatives and utilities to gain economies of scale on power supply costs to provide affordable and competitive rates.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, accounting, finance, economics, or related field, and a minimum of ten (10) years’ electric utility experience including responsibility for interpreting rules, regulations, policies and contracts and developing, implementing and monitoring rate strategies.
Experience equivalent to ten (10) years in one or more of the following fields is preferred; demand response program management, load management strategy development, energy efficiency program management, power procurement through contracting or resource development, transmission system operations (ISO/RTO), Integrated Resource Plan development, power supply planning, transmission planning or distributed energy resource development.
Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives. Ability to discern facts, weigh outcomes, and make a final recommendation or decision.
This position has the discretion to manage their own tasks and has significant discretion to make decisions on behalf of and that can affect the entire organization.
Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations could typically result in serious results that may impact the company’s financials.
Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects. Frequently interacts with power suppliers, in person or on the phone to discuss requirements. Frequently interacts with other employees, in person, over the phone or email to discuss projects, procedures and member needs.
Often interacts with other employees for oversight and guidance. Collaborates with the Executive team.
Receives broad overall guidance from the CERO. Supervise, coach, and mentor exempt and non-exempt staff.
Requires repetitive motions with hands and fingers such as keyboarding, use of telephones, cell phones, etc.
Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
Noise level in work environment is moderate. Work requires close attention to detail and accuracy and is varied in nature with regular interruptions. Work is subject to regular (irregular) hours.
Ability to drive and operates controls when driving a vehicle.
Talking clearly in an ordinary tone is done constantly daily. Hearing ordinary conversations is also necessary on a constant basis.
Seeing near is frequently important when reading, writing and working on a computer. Seeing far, depth perception, eye accommodation, color vision and field of vision are necessary when frequently driving a vehicle.
Mental abilities that are very necessary to competently perform this job are alertness, precision, ingenuity, problem-solving, analytic ability, persuasiveness, speaking ability, memory, creativity, concentration, judgment, writing ability, reasoning, imagination, initiative, patience, visual discrimination and aesthetic sense. Abilities the job will require only occasionally are spatial perception, auditory discrimination and tactile discrimination.
This job is performed inside an office building at normal temperature ranges eighty percent (80%) of the time. Twenty percent (20%) of the time, this position will be outside or in a vehicle when going to a meeting or appointment. Noise level is often fifty to sixty decibels (50-60 dBs), which is that of normal conversation. Occasional travel by airplane may be required.
Typical Hiring Range: $178,400 - $214,240 annual salary
