Utility Field Designer – Lighting
Locations: One role available in Carrollton, GA (Polk, Harrison, Carroll, Heard)
Job Overview:
LineWorks Engineering is actively seeking a skilled and motivated Utility Field Designer to join our Utility Services team. This role will support lighting system projects in the Atlanta metro area and its surrounding counties, as well as counties throughout the state of Georgia. The ideal candidate(s) will be responsible for field data collection, designing and estimating outdoor lighting systems, providing detailed billing information to parties responsible for payment of relocations, removals, or installations, creating detailed prints for construction, and coordinating construction with the appropriate teams.
As a Utility Field Designer, you will combine field expertise with design capabilities to deliver comprehensive lighting solutions. The Utility Field Designer will manage various lighting design projects, by working closely with LineWorks' lighting professionals, their clients, other contractors, and LineWorks’ leadership team. This role requires the ability to operate in outdoor conditions typical to Georgia's climate while maintaining a professional demeanor and a clean driving record. The Utility Field Designer uses industry software to design and estimate job costs, as well as ensuring that designs meet industry standards and safety regulations.
Skills & Qualifications:
•Education: High school diploma is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
•Experience: No experience required; 1-3 years of experience in the utility distribution or lighting engineering field and field data collection or field design experience a plus.
•Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and related software is a plus. Familiarity with electric distribution systems and related software (e.g., JETS, LAMP) is an advantage.
•Customer Service & Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to professionally engage with clients, contractors, and internal teams. A background in sales or customer service is beneficial.
•Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational skills to manage appointments, job schedules, and project documentation efficiently.
•Driving: A clean driving record and the ability to operate a company vehicle are required.
•Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Maps, and industry-specific software.
•Travel: Willingness to travel daily for on-site work, including occasional overnight travel.
•Additional Requirements: Pre-employment drug screening, background check, and valid driver’s license are required.
Key Responsibilities & Job Requirements:
•Field Data Collection and Design: Gather field data from various job sites, ensuring it is accurate and complete for the design and estimation process. Develop utility lighting designs that align with project specifications, client requirements, and safety codes.
•Design, Estimation and Compliance: Develop and estimate utility lighting designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety codes, and client specifications. Engineer lighting systems and prepare comprehensive job packages using industry software such as JETS and LAMP. Estimate job costs, order materials, and bill customers as part of the design and estimation process.
•Client Interaction: Maintain a professional and effective relationship with clients, contractors, and internal/external teams ensuring the completion of projects to satisfaction and maintaining customer loyalty. Participate in sales meetings with clients and ensure consistent scheduling of customer appointments and meetings, obtain new information, and ensure all goals of the organization are being met.
•Site Visits and Safety: Safely visit job sites to assess concerns of the clients, obtain pictures and other valid information to complete field design, share relevant information with construction teams, and ensure that all projects adhere to safety protocols. Stake job sites for accurate installation of lighting systems.
•Project Management: Ensure that each project is completed on time, meeting client expectations and LineWorks Engineering company standards. Keep accurate records of all project-related communications, schedules, and documentation. Coordinate with the construction team to ensure projects are completed by client specifications and on time or ahead of schedule.
•Travel and Field Work: The role will require travel, including overnight stays, to meet with clients, obtain field data, and conduct site visits, and ensure the timely completion of projects.
•Material Management: Learn lighting materials and components of installation to ensure complete ordering for job removals, relocations, or installation; reconciliation of materials may be required.
