As a Treatment Plant Operator II at Lehigh County Authority (LCA) in Allentown, PA, you’ll be part of a team responsible for the safe and reliable operation of our water and wastewater treatment facilities. What the Job Looks Like
When you join LCA, you become part of a team dedicated to protecting resources and serving the community with integrity. Day to day you’ll:
- Operate and monitor treatment equipment including pumps, motors, valves, meters, boilers, and sludge processing units.
- Use SCADA systems and manual logging to track plant performance and adjust processes as needed.
- Collect samples, conduct field testing, and interpret results to maintain compliance with environmental regulations.
- Document and report any equipment malfunctions and assist with troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
- Perform operator-level maintenance such as lubricating equipment, regenerating softeners, and filling chemical tanks.
- Train and provide guidance to lower-grade operators as assigned.
- Rotate between water filtration and wastewater treatment plants on scheduled or temporary assignments.
- Contribute to a safe, efficient, and collaborative workplace.
What You Need to Thrive in This Role
To be successful in this position, you should bring a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, with specialized training in water or wastewater treatment. At least two years of experience as a treatment plant operator or equivalent.
- Licensing & Certifications: Valid Pennsylvania Class A Water or Class A Wastewater Operator’s license (no subclasses required). Must obtain appropriate subclasses within three years of appointment. Valid PA Driver’s License required.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of treatment plant operations, laboratory testing, and safety protocols.
- Ability to read gauges, meters, and SCADA system outputs accurately.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb stairs/ladders, and perform plant rounds every four hours.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to work collaboratively across shifts.
- Flexibility to work rotating 12 hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
