We’re looking for a
Team Lead, Transmission System Planning
to lead and mentor a team of engineers driving the safety, reliability, and long-term planning of ENMAX Power’s Transmission system. In this leadership role, you’ll guide the development and continuous improvement of system planning programs while ensuring compliance with the Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) and ENMAX’s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP). You will also review and sign off on technical studies that shape the future of Calgary’s power infrastructure.
You’ll play a key role in advancing our Transmission Planning practices and shaping capital strategies that align with ENMAX’s corporate goals under the Transmission Cost of Service regulatory framework. This position offers the opportunity to blend technical depth with leadership influence — from supporting regulatory applications and potentially acting as a witness, to guiding capital project development that will strengthen the power grid for years to come.
Major Responsibilities•Lead a team of Engineers to assess and determine the future development of the EPC Transmission System in the best interests of the ratepayers in accordance with the mandate provided through the Alberta Electric Utilities Act, Transmission Regulation, and with due regard for ensuring ENMAX business success
•Perform technical studies related to transmission system planning, operation and design.
•Manage AESO direct assigned and customer projects through the Planning Intake Process.
•Work with cross-functional teams to resolve technical system issues to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of EPC Transmission System.
•Lead the development of business cases for transmission system developments and provide support during regulatory rate application proceedings.
•Provide technical support for regulatory applications, including potential witness, for regulatory hearings.
•Review and approve technical documentation required for AESO project and data submissions in accordance to ISO Rules and ARS.
•Develop processes to create efficiencies with existing transmission planning functions and other technical requirements.
•Act as an APEGA Responsible Member for the discipline of Transmission System Planning, overseeing the work of Transmission Planning Engineers, and ensuring compliance with our Professional Practice Management Plan
•Assist in the preparation and review of capital and operating budgets to ensure alignment with business and corporate objectives.
Education Required
•Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
•P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA).
Qualifications & Experience
•10 years of directly relevant experience.
•Previous experience in or related experience with leadership duties
•Knowledge of the Alberta regulatory environment
•Strong understanding of electrical systems and transmission planning concepts including Alberta Reliability Standards (i.e., TPL Standards, FAC and MOD).
•Previous experience with transmission planning and asset management strategies, execution planning, and business case writing or review for capital projects.
•Background in technical evaluation, design and construction with Transmission utility assets including substations and transmission lines.
•Understanding of industry standards (CSA, IEEE, IEC etc.) pertaining to the design and testing of equipment and materials.

Location:
This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
