This is a mechanical and operations work involving routine maintenance, repair, overhaul, installation and operation of water and system mechanical equipment and facilities. This position requires strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to perform tasks such as equipment repair, data collection, etc....
Direct supervision is provided by the designated management personnel.
1. Assists in operating, maintaining, repairing, overhauling or installing water production and treatment equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, meters, chlorinators, motors and the like.
2. Assists in operating, maintaining, repairing, overhauling or installing water distribution system components, including pipes, valves, hydrants, meters, meter boxes and the like.
3. Assists in inspecting equipment for wear, leaks, and proper operations, replaces worn or damaged parts under direct supervision, and assists with reassembling and testing units.
4. Cleans, paints, washes down, and performs grounds maintenance work to assure Corporation facilities are neat and operational.
5. Assists in connecting chlorinators and other treatment or regulatory units; takes water quality samples at specified check points to test for chlorine residual.
6. Will be assisting in emergency duty. May be required to be on stand by during emergency situations.
7. May make customer service calls to assist with customer inquiries, may assist the Meter Reader in completing assigned routes in unusual situations.
8. Performs other duties as assigned by designated management personnel.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical equipment and trades work.
- Extensive knowledge of water operations and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of a water system computer software.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe procedures associated with mechanical and construction trades.
- Skills in the use and care of tools and equipment.
- Skills in the use and care of a truck.
- Ability to comprehend and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to recognize existing and potential equipment failures.
- Ability to take accurate readings, to keep legible records and logs, and to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to learn new procedures, to complete required training in a timely manner.
- Ability to work safely, as a crew member or alone, to comply with established safety procedures, and to recognize and correct workplace safety hazards.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, management, and the general public.
