Hampton Tedder Electric Co. was established in 1958 and is a family owned and operated company that has a proven track record of safe, compliant and reliable service.
We are seeking an Electrical Substation Construction Estimator to support the preparation of competitive bids and detailed cost proposals for utility, municipal, and private-sector substation projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of electrical substation construction means and methods, utility standards, and contract documents (drawings, specifications, and addenda). This role works closely with project managers, engineering, procurement, and field operations.
- Review engineering plans, specifications, and RFP packages for scope, constructability, and bid requirements.
- Prepare material, labor, and equipment takeoffs for 12kV – 500kV substation construction.
- Develop detailed cost estimates using historical pricing, vendor quotes, and production rates.
- Submit 1-2 estimates per week.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals.
- Identify risk items, schedule impacts, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Participate in bid reviews and provide technical input to final pricing strategy.
- Assist with client clarifications, pre-bid RFIs, and proposal documentation.
- Maintain estimating database and standard pricing libraries.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Candidate must be able to meet the following requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of industry construction methods for high-voltage systems.
- Knowledge of material pricing and substation equipment (breakers, transformers, structures, buswork, grounding, conduit, etc.)
- Strong judgment and discretion with confidential information.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record and reliable transportation.
- Capable of lifting, bending, light stocking, and prolonged sitting/standing.
- Ability to collaborate with engineers, project managers, and procurement professionals
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Typing speed 40+ WPM.Applicant must pass proficiency tests for typing, math and Excel before being considered for interview.
