Northwestern REC is seeking candidates for the position of Staking Technician. Northwestern REC is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative in Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. The Cooperative focuses on providing safe, reliable, cost-effective electricity to its more than 20,000 members. In addition to our core business of electricity, Northwestern REC employs personnel to provide exemplary services to support reliability and member satisfaction.
The chosen candidate will play a vital role in our Engineering Department. The candidate should have strong initiative, solid technical skills, a drive for detail, and be a collaborative team player.
The Steaking Technician assists with staking lines for system upgrades, new services, relocations, joint use and lighting installations. The individual is responsible for negotiating and securing rights-of-way, specifying trimming and construction requirements, coordinating with other utilities, and obtaining necessary construction permits. Duties also include supporting pole maintenance and restoration programs, entering staking sheet information into the system, and maintaining a thorough understanding of Cooperative policies, construction standards, and the National Electric Code as it pertains to electric distribution. Determining territorial boundaries in accordance with protection laws is essential, along with maintaining accurate records of foreign attachments, map updates, and infrastructure permits. The position requires active participation in daily crew meetings to assess site conditions, assisting with outage restoration when needed, and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Two year degree and two years of related work experience in electric industry is preferred. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with members and other employees. Ability to project a favorable image for the Cooperative. Ability to multitask and stay focused on complex projects.
