LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) is a high-growth renewable energy company forging a sustainable future through integrity, innovation, and positive impact. We own and operate 30 large wind, solar, and energy storage projects across the United States, totaling over 3 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity.
LRE has an ambitious goal of 10GW of operating assets by 2028 and are developing and contracting an increasing pipeline of new projects every year. Job Summary
The focus of the Senior O&M Safety Manager is to create, inspire, and maintain a “Everyone Goes Home Safe” safety culture. This position will lead, direct, facilitate, and support safety initiatives for the Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) O&M plants. The O&M Sr. Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring the completion of safety audits and inspections, procedure update/revisions as well as all required internal and external reporting obligations, including monthly reporting of site/business unit safety KIPs. Through planning, leading, evaluating, and continuously improving awareness the Sr. Manager will create an environment which encourages a collaborative working spirit with LRE O&M and our third-party service providers.
Responsibilities
- Be in the field 50-75% of the time collaborating with operations site leadership and our third-party service providers to outline project safety goals and coordinating with subcontractors to verify they are adhering to LRE safety expectations.
- Lead and manage LRE third-party EHS Techs/Safety Managers.
- Identify and control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and collaboration with O&M leadership.
- Conduct work area inspections and audits to ensure continued compliance and monitor non-compliant findings to closure.
- Ensure safety policies and procedures are adhered to at assigned projects.
- Partner with site leadership in the investigation and documentation of all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities.
- Employ strategies to avoid loss/restricted-time accidents.
- Review documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted by established procedures, and implement appropriate corrective action as required.
- Create and manage relationships with all job site employees to ensure safety program alignment and accountability for reporting safety issues.
- Manage safety plans and goals to ensure objectives are being met. Develop plans to assist team in meeting goals.
- Act as a safety resource and mentor for LRE staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and/or health required, Masters preferred.
- Minimum of ten years’ experience in construction, maintenance and/or industrial safety required.
- First aid and/or CPR certification preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification required.
- Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification preferred.
- Familiar with EHS Insight Incident Management software.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to position objects and operate tools or controls.
- Employees use computer keyboards.
- The employee is occasionally required to position self to maneuver in confined or awkward spaces.
- The employee regularly is required to remain in a stationary position and move to access people or machinery or workspaces.
- Employees are occasionally required to ascend and/or descend a ladder or stairs to reach work areas.
- The employee must regularly move up to twenty pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds.
- The employee is regularly required to travel (as a vehicle driver and as a passenger on various modes of transportation) and frequently performs work on-site at construction sites.
- Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Employees view computer monitors regularly.
- The employee is required to be able to effectively communicate while on the job site and throughout the completion of duties.
- The working conditions of this position require the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
- Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to maintain safety and prevent exposure to harmful materials.
- The environment for which this position functions may be exposed to prolonged loud noises and may contain scents and fragrances.
- Will be required to work overtime and weekends as needs warrant.
