This is a contract position with a term of two years and possibility for extension.

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Performance, the Sr. Lead, Ecological Restoration & Reclamation is responsible for providing technical expertise in planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting for reclamation and restoration activities at Teck Legacy Properties. This role also supports the implementation of the mitigation hierarchy required for project or closure planning and management to address deficits in valued ecosystems components resulting from mining activities.
We are seeking a leader with a proven track record in managing complex restoration projects, from conceptual planning through to long-term monitoring. You will be a courageous safety leader, a champion for environmental stewardship, and a collaborative partner to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsiblities
•Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•Provide senior technical guidance on all aspects of reclamation and ecological restoration, including soil remediation, revegetation, water quality, and wildlife habitat enhancement.
•Develop and oversee a comprehensive, risk-based framework for the ecological restoration of Legacy Properties, aligning with Teck's sustainability goals and regulatory requirements.
•Lead the development and implementation of a portfolio-wide invasive species management strategy, including the creation of site-specific management plans with five-year implementation horizons. Build a portfolio of wildfire interface management program, by identifying opportunities to enhance resiliency to wildfire in communities and developing multiyear wildfire management plans.
•Direct the development of detailed terrestrial ecosystem mapping for Legacy sites to inform habitat classification, identify sensitive areas, and guide restoration activities.
•Develop wildlife monitoring and mitigation plans for Legacy projects (e.g., relevant to restricted activity windows for species). Lead the development and implementation of wildlife monitoring and mitigation plans for Legacy Properties, ensuring compliance with restricted activity windows and other regulatory stipulations.
•Develop and implement revegetation plans to achieve end land use, including seed collection and planting, monitoring performance objectives and criteria, data management and annual reporting. •Oversee the design and implementation of robust, science-driven revegetation programs tailored to achieve specific end land use objectives. This includes leading initiatives for native seed collection, propagation, and planting, as well as establishing performance objectives and monitoring criteria.
•Oversee revegetation research programs for closure planning purposes and support ecosystem rehabilitation. Direct and manage cutting-edge revegetation research programs to inform and advance closure planning and ecosystem rehabilitation techniques.
•Coordinate and oversee archeological assessments for Legacy properties, develop Legacy property inventory, and manage detailed assessments as needed for projects.
•Provide leadership in compliance management according to regulatory permits and applicable environmental regulations
•Manage external environmental consultants
•Accountable for developing, implementing, and tracking budgets on an annual basis, and providing input and strategic advice on budget decisions and allocations
•Complete other responsibilities as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
•Degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, or environmental-related field. A Master’s degree is an asset.
•Professional accreditation, such as RPF, RPBio, PAg, or registered, or eligible for registration, is a requirement.
•Minimum ten years’ experience in mining, resource development, industrial operations, environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field with a significant focus on post-mining landscapes or other large-scale industrial disturbances
•Demonstrated experience with management in reclamation, invasive plant, wildlife management, or similar work.
•Strong organizational, time management, interpersonal, communication skills.
•Strong decision-making abilities with a proven capacity for practical problem solving.
•Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and productively as a team member and with external communities of interest including regulatory agencies and Indigenous groups.
•Ability to organize priorities based on deadlines and strong attention to detail.
•Technical knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and effective industry practices is an asset.
•Travel is anticipated to be about 25%, between April to October.

The actual wage rate offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
