Leads NV Energy’s real-time participation in the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM). Ensures compliance with NERC/WECC Reliability Standards as applicable to real-time operation of Balancing Authority Operation and Transmission System Operations. Ensures compliance with FERC code of conduct for EIM coordination with Marketing Function Employees (MFEs).
This is a Sr. Engineer position but may hire at a lower level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains a leadership role in EIM stakeholder processes that relates to or impacts the Transmission business unit’s interests in EIM participation.
Develops strategy, business recommendations, and process improvements for NV Energy’s participation in EIM. .Provides tactical support related to process improvements and business recommendations for NV Energy’s participation in the EIM.
Serves as NV Energy’s primary contact for EIM operations in real-time.
Analyzes information and provides hour-ahead and day-ahead support for EIM participation.
Oversees operational parameters of NV Energy Balancing Authority and Transmission System Operation.
Maintains situational awareness and effective communications with NV Energy’s Balancing Authority Operator and Transmission System Operator in regard to system performance.
Monitors the transmission Energy Management System for real-time status of participating (in EIM) and non-participating resources.
Provides base resource schedules to the EIM for participating and non-participating resources.
Provides interchange and intra-change schedules to the EIM.
Monitors energy bids for reliability performance evaluation and contingency planning.
Develops and provides 7-day hourly resource plan to the EIM.
Reviews hourly load forecasts as submitted to the EIM.
Reviews base schedule change requests from the EIM. Provides revisions to base schedules, , as needed.
Monitors transmission and resource contingencies in real-time, and updates EIM participation as per established criteria.
Coordinates EIM operations with the Resource Optimization staff in accordance with FERC standards of conduct.
Maintains communications with the management team in regards to operational performance of NV Energy electric system.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work ExperienceBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited school and 5 years of industry experience as a licensed professional engineer.
If not a licensed professional, must have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited school and eight or more years of experience performing work in an engineering capacity.
NERC Reliability Coordinator (RC) level certification (or ability to achieve certification within 1 year of start date).
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Solid knowledge of company’s transmission system. Detailed knowledge of NERC/WECC Reliability Standards. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Equipment and Applications
SCADA, Contingency Analysis, and Advanced Applications. MS Office software suite
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Normal office work environment. 12 hour shift schedules that will require working days or nights and rotating combinations including weekends and holidays.
