· This position is responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of all types of electrical/water meters and instrument-rated metering equipment and control systems used in a distribution electric/water utility
· Disconnect and reconnect electric and water meters, even if the accounts are delinquent
· Collect meter readings for electric and water meters
· Maintenance and troubleshooting of traffic control signals, school zone flashing lights, and caution lights
· Replace fuses for taps and/or transformers with a long stick
· Assist other SPS personnel under qualified supervision in restoring power during power outages.
· Work with many different departments to make sure their needs are taken care of, to keep day-to-day operations moving
· Carry out the performance of the job utilizing all required safety procedures and equipment
· Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, telephones, and mobile devices
· Ability to work irregular hours for assignment completion and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergencies.
· Perform inventory control duties as assigned. Become familiar with equipment, issuance procedures, and records
· Develop a working knowledge of meter programming software and applications.
· Ensure tools and equipment are in safe working conditions and well-maintained.
· Ability to perform call duty after designated training period, and must live within a 30-minute commute via Google Maps
· This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting
· Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind
· Service work orders–requires digging, bending, lifting, and twisting
· Knowledge of and the ability to read and relate theoretical concepts and instruments in documents, drawings, and specifications to practical application
· Ability to learn how to safely operate and maintain equipment: trucks, trailers, forklifts
· Accurate reading skills: reading labels, job site maps/directions, instruction manuals, and written instructions
· Personal tool maintenance: maintain hand tools and equipment required for the position
· Ability to work independently or in a team setting and collaborate with other departments/divisions as necessary
· Any other work deemed necessary by Shelbyville Power System management
· Available to work after hours and on call when needed
· Ability to work outside in various temperatures.
· Ability to walk, stand, sit, climb poles, twist, bend, push, pull, and lift up to one hundred (100) pounds.
