SUMMARY
The Human Resource Sr. Benefits Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and managing the organization’s employee benefits programs. This role ensures that benefit offerings are competitive, cost-effective, compliant with applicable laws, and aligned with the company’s overall compensation strategy. This is a hands-on managerial role, requiring heavy project management and administration, as well as a strategic role, providing guidance to senior management and implementing plans for improvement in the management of human capital.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, organizes and controls all activities of the department while participating in developing department goals, objectives and systems
- Manage relationships with brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators
- Design, implement, and manage health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and wellness programs
- Conduct regular benefits benchmarking and market analysis
- Monitor benefits costs and prepare budget forecasts
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA)
- Oversee audits and ensure accurate benefits administration
- Develop and deliver benefits communication materials and presentations
- Lead open enrollment processes
- Resolve escalated claims or service issues
- Analyze benefits utilization and trends to prepare executive-level reports and recommendations
- Oversee accurate employee benefits records in HRIS systems
- Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed
- Participates in staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in benefits administration or generalist capacity - 2+ years in a managerial or leadership role- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CEBS) preferred
- Experience with benefits administration platforms and enrollment systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of current labor laws
- Must exercise the highest level of confidentiality
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for data analysis and reporting)
- Proficiency in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) (e.g., Dayforce, Workday, ADP, UKG, etc)
- Must complete and pass all required pre-employment screenings
