York Metal Products is looking for a Robotic Weld Cell Operator who is adept at operating, troubleshooting & maintaining robotic welding cells. The goal of the Robotic Weld Cell Operator is to minimize machine downtime through accurate collection of data, communication and analysis of inputs to the production process, while meeting established production targets and fabricating parts to customer specifications. The Robotic Weld Cell Operator must work in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines, while also working within an interdisciplinary team of welders, engineers, technicians, production and quality professionals to ensure on time delivery of product and quality performance. This role is multifaceted in nature and allows for extensive training in various areas of advanced manufacturing, with the long-term objective of Robotic Weld Cell programming. The ideal candidate has prior hands-on / theoretical understanding of Welding and/or Robotics and is interested in pursuing a career in advanced manufacturing.
- Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawing specifications, manuals and processes
- Operate previously set-up welding machines (ie Automatic Weld Cells and Robotic Welding arms / machines)
- Operate semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using the GMAW process
- Conduct set up of Robotic Welding Cells under the guidance of your direct supervisor.
- Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications
- Start up, shut down, adjust and monitor robotic welding production line
- Assist with the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of welding equipment
- Adjust welding heads and tooling according to part / job specifications
- Follow Work Instructions and Job Element Sheet for welding related activities
- Troubleshoot Robotic welding operations and rectify problems with weld issues.
- Program and troubleshoot robot controllers to ensure that quality standards are met.
- Make appropriate modification to both robotic and welding equipment to ensure a high level of running efficiency.
- Assist Manufacturing Engineers in process improvements, increase productivity & quality while reducing re-work & scrap
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations, including wearing required PPE
- CWB Welding Tickets (GMAW, Robotic) is an asset.
- Welding Techniques, Welding Technology and/or Robotic Technician Certificate is an asset.
- 2-4 years related experience and/or training in an advanced manufacturing facility; or equivalent combination of education and experience as a robot technician is required.
- Great Mechanical aptitude and able to use inspection and measurement tools such as verniers, calipers and micrometers.
- Working understanding of GD&T Drawings and knowledge of welding symbols.
- Previous experience using AutoCAD/Soildworks.
- Quality oriented, with a strong attention to detail required.
- Team player, with the ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and time sensitive production environment.
- Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be able to read and communicate in English, through both verbal and written means.
- Fast-paced manufacturing shop floor environment involves frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and balancing.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Process is repetitive in nature and involves close attention to detail.
- Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination.
