Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Receipt Inspector to join our team in the shipbuilding industry. This position is responsible for inspecting incoming materials, components, and equipment to ensure they meet Navy shipbuilding specifications, standards, and quality requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong blueprint-reading skills, proficiency with precision measuring instruments, and an exceptional eye for detail.
- Inspect incoming shipbuilding materials, components, and equipment upon receipt to verify compliance with purchase order requirements, specifications, and quality standards.
- Read and interpret Navy shipbuilding blueprints/drawings to confirm material specifications, tolerances, and acceptance criteria.
- Use precision measuring and testing equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to verify dimensions, tolerances, and material characteristics.
- Conduct visual inspections to identify defects, damage, discrepancies, or non-conformities in received materials.
- Document inspection results, prepare detailed reports, and maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and any non-conformances.
- Collaborate with purchasing, logistics, engineering, and production teams to address quality issues, resolve discrepancies, and coordinate corrective actions.
- Support internal and external audits by providing inspection documentation and participating in quality review processes.
- Adhere to established quality control procedures, standards, and safety protocols.
- Stay informed of industry best practices and evolving quality standards related to shipbuilding.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience in reading Navy shipbuilding blueprints/drawings and interpreting material specifications.
- Strong knowledge of shipbuilding processes, materials, and quality control requirements.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify and document defects or non-conformities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with quality control standards, procedures, and methodologies.
- Preferred: Certification from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) such as Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT).
- Prior experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing, or materials inspection highly desirable.
- Previous Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) experience is a plus.
