Job Summary:
The Probate, Wills, and Estates Paralegal provides comprehensive support in the areas of probate administration, estate planning, and trust management. This role involves direct client interaction, preparation of legal documents, and coordination with courts, financial institutions, and beneficiaries. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in handling sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
•Draft, review, and file legal documents including wills, trusts, codicils, powers of attorney, and advance directives
•Prepare and file probate petitions, inventories, letters testamentary, and final accountings
•Support attorneys in the administration of estates and trusts, including asset identification, valuation, and distribution
•Coordinate execution of estate planning documents with clients and witnesses
•Maintain ongoing communication with personal representatives, beneficiaries, trustees, and external stakeholders
•Draft deeds, affidavits, waivers, consents, and receipts for court and non-court matters
•Monitor probate court deadlines and ensure timely filings in accordance with state and local rules
•Assist with preparation of estate tax returns and compliance filings (e.g., IRS Form 706, state inheritance/estate tax forms)
•Organize and maintain estate planning files and confidential case records
•Conduct legal and factual research related to estate planning and probate law
Qualifications:
•Paralegal Certificate required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
•3+ years of experience in probate, wills, and estate planning in a law firm or legal department
•Strong understanding of probate procedures, estate planning documents, and fiduciary responsibilities
•Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal case management systems (e.g., Clio, MyCase, WealthCounsel, or similar)
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with grieving families tactfully
•Ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently with minimal supervision
