Job Description Primary Purpose
Leads efforts to support the organization develop, build, and operate North American infrastructure to deliver energy for a better world. Oversees efforts used to underpin (i) the organization's business strategy to maximize shareholder value and (ii) various development and asset management strategies to maximize value creation across a portfolio of liquified natural gas (LNG), Net Zero, alternate fuels, clean power, pipeline and terminal projects. Prepares regular and special reports to the marketing and origination teams, project developers, senior leaders and the organization broadly to ensure we make the best business decisions possible. Responsibilities include commercial analysis, market assessment and general business development support of projects on appraisal or under development.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain deep expertise in sector-appropriate modeling tools and develop long-term market views. Develop and/or utilize sector-specific engineering, economic and/or production modeling tools to support project economic assessments and underpin sector and project-specific business plans and strategies.
- For example, LNG and blue hydrogen feed gas supply planning; or develop carbon accounting and life cycle analysis models to advance understanding of specific energy projects' carbon footprint; or develop informed views of renewable and other alternative energy markets to support business development.
- Lead fast-turn analysis to inform and make recommendations in business decision processes such as counterparty due diligence, marketing, and negotiation.
- Track and analyze market development in gas, LNG, power, hydrogen carbon making and wind & solar industries, communicating insights to various audiences (Senior Leadership, Project Development, Operations, Marketing etc.) through regular internal reports and workshops.
- Manage and advance data reporting capabilities with a focus on driving efficiency through automation. Or produce client-ready deliverables, translating technical information into audience-appropriate insights.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
- Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or related field of study, and/or equivalent years of related experience. - 10+ years of experience as an energy economist and/or commercial energy/environmental market analyst, (with a focus on industries such as natural gas, LNG, alternative clean fuels, carbon or other environmental markets), preferably within consulting firms, other research organization, or business planning/developing departments of energy companies. - 3+ years of experience in developing/using leading industry modeling tools and analytic frameworks to understand complicated and dynamic market information and communicating with impact.
- Training in microeconomics or macroeconomics
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work as a team player
- Report-writing skills
- Ability to use MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate and present effectively both written and verbally
- Ability to present complex information and data to a wide range of audiences
- Knowledge of energy economics
- Knowledge of liquid natural gas (LNG)/gas/carbon/hydrogen/wind/solar industry
- Ability to perform energy modeling
- Ability to manage different projects simultaneously
- Master's Degree Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or related field of study
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
