Primary Purpose PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Regulates the practices, policies, procedures and programs to operate the transmission system in a safe, reliable and efficient manner. Determines transmission outage windows for internal and external departments in accordance with the FERC approved PJM scheduling requirements to minimize transmission system congestion. Ensures proposed transmission system configuration can be operated consistent with NERC and PJM operating policies for a given set of transmission outages. Directs and enhances work bundling efforts to minimize unnecessary risk to the interconnected transmission system. Leads project outage meetings on transmission system project teams to coordinate the addition of new equipment and assure the seamless assimilation of new transmission system configuration enhancements. Approve updated project and outage scheduling tools to monitor and address long range scheduling and switching issues. Expertise in transmission system operations and the regulations governing safe reliable operations are crucial in understanding the requirements of this job. The Prin Specialist - Operations has interfaces at several levels including Distribution System Operation, T&S, Exelon Nuclear, Exelon Power, independent power producers, PJM and other transmission system customers, operators and owners. Exceptional communications, decision making, and negotiations skills are essential. Note: Where someone qualified as a transmission dispatcher assumes this position, they are expected to maintain such qualifications and perform dispatch functions on an as-needed basis. Note: Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
This position with have responsibilities for project management on upcoming projects which the EMS Support Group will be engaged including the EMS full system upgrade.
Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). The Prin. Specialist Operations' actions have a significant and direct impact on transmission system reliability and public and employee safety. The Prin. Specialist - Operations is responsible for the development of procedures that govern the day-to-day normal operations and emergency operations used by the control room. The Prin. Specialist - Operations have direct interaction with internal and external customers such as: T&S, DSO, Exelon Nuclear, Exelon Power, Interconnected Transmission Owners, major transmission customers, Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO's) and regulatory agencies such as PJM, Reliability First Corporation (RFC) and NERC. Consequences of the Prin. Specialist - Operations actions can have a significant financial impact on the corporation due to transmission system congestion, equipment damage and loss of customer satisfaction.
The Prin Operations Specialist will have the role of being a subject matter expert on the EMS Support Group (ESG) team. ESG creates and maintains the digital representation of the transmission grid. The team is split into two core groups: database specialists and engineers. The database team creates the framework for communication with field equipment and builds and maintains One-Line Displays. The engineering team takes this framework and develops an electric model of the grid. Depending on the candidates background this could be database and display expertise or power flow and advanced application expertise. The Prin Operations Specialist will perform tasks in line with their background.
