The Power Tong Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining power tongs used in drilling and completion operations. This role involves ensuring the safe and efficient handling of tubular goods, making connections, and performing various tasks related to well servicing.
- Operate power tongs to make and break connections.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in safe working order.
- Collaborate with the drilling crew to plan and execute operations.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and report any issues or maintenance needs.
- Adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations to minimize risks.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior operators and crew members.
- Maintain accurate records of operations and equipment usage.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or equipment malfunctions.
- Previous experience as a Power Tong Operator or in a related field.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of drilling and completion processes.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and on a flexible schedule.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Work is typically performed in outdoor environments, often in remote locations.
- May require extended hours, including nights and weekends, depending on project needs.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects and work at heights.
