We are seeking a skilled Operator/Mechanic to join our light gauge steel manufacturing team. This role combines equipment operation with mechanical maintenance responsibilities, focusing primarily on roll forming equipment and supporting manufacturing machinery. The ideal candidate will ensure optimal production efficiency through skilled operation and proactive maintenance of our manufacturing systems.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation:
•Operate roll forming machines and related production equipment to manufacture light gauge steel products according to specifications
•Monitor production processes and make real-time adjustments to maintain quality standards
•Set up and configure machinery for different product runs and specifications
•Conduct pre-shift inspections and equipment checks to ensure safe operating conditions
•Maintain accurate production records and quality documentation
Mechanical Maintenance:
•Perform preventive maintenance on roll formers, including lubrication, adjustments, and component replacement
•Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues with production equipment
•Conduct routine maintenance on supporting equipment such as uncoilers, flying cutoffs, and material handling systems
•Replace worn tooling, dies, and forming rolls as needed
•Collaborate with maintenance team on major repairs and equipment upgrades
Material Handling and Fabrication:
•Safely operate forklifts to move raw materials, finished products, and equipment components
•Perform welding repairs and fabrication work on equipment and fixtures as needed
•Handle coil loading and unloading operations using appropriate lifting equipment
Quality and Safety:
•Inspect finished products for dimensional accuracy and surface quality
•Identify and address quality issues before they impact production
•Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment
•Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
•High school diploma or equivalent
•2+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in metal forming or similar industry
•Valid forklift operator certification or ability to obtain certification
•Welding experience with MIG/TIG or stick welding processes
•Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in equipment maintenance and repair
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
•Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
•Proficiency with hand tools, measuring instruments, and basic electrical troubleshooting
•Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a standing position for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience with roll forming equipment or similar metal forming machinery
•Vocational training in industrial maintenance or related field
•Knowledge of steel properties and metal forming processes
•Experience with computerized production systems
•Advanced welding certifications
Schedule and Location
•Location: Bonham, TX (on-site position)
•Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
•Hours: Full-time position with additional hours as needed to meet production demands
•Overtime: Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required
Working Conditions
This position operates in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving machinery. Standard safety equipment is required. The role involves shift work and may include occasional overtime or weekend work to meet production demands.
