Scheduled Work Hours: Monday – Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Job may require additional hours as required including but not limited to support of refueling and forced outages.
This leadership role will be hands-on while overseeing clinical operations, regulatory compliance, employee health programs, and safety initiatives at our nuclear facility. This role combines leadership, clinical expertise, and regulatory knowledge to ensure the health, safety, and readiness of our workforce. Additionally, this role will ensure compliance with all regulations to maintain qualified licensed operators and qualified security personnel at our nuclear facility.
Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise clinical staff, including full-time and temporary nurses during outages.
- Oversee scheduling and execution of employee physicals, audiograms, and wellness evaluations.
- Provide leadership during outages to ensure efficient injury and illness management.
- Conduct Licensed Operator chart audits and manage NRC Medical Form 396 submissions.
- Maintain active certifications and licensure (Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, DOT/FMCSA, CAOHC, NIOSH, OSHA 10).
- Stay current with NRC, OSHA, ANSI, and CFR standards; attend industry conferences for updates.
- Interface and maintain relationships with medical review officer(s) to implement required regulations for licensed operators and qualified security personnel.
- Evaluate, treat, and manage work-related injuries under Workers’ Compensation.
- Provide 24/7 case management and coordinate care with claims representatives and specialists.
- Promote modified duty use and reduce OSHA recordables, lost time, and DART rates.
- Perform DOT/DMV exams, wellness screenings, and minor procedures for non-occupational illnesses.
- Administer vaccinations (Influenza, Tdap, Hepatitis B) and provide chronic condition counseling.
- Conduct pre-employment, post-employment, and annual physicals per NRC/OSHA standards.
- Administer and interpret EKGs, urinalysis, audiograms, pulmonary function tests, and lab work.
- Manage the Hearing Conservation and Respirator Surveillance programs.
- Perform visual acuity testing and coordinate follow-up for security personnel.
- Provide 24/7 telemedicine and telephonic support for incidents.
- Respond to on-site medical emergencies and support outage-related medical needs.
- Participate in Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned
- Manage clinic communications, daily reports, and qualification tracking.
- Maintain CLIA certification and oversee biohazard waste disposal.
- Order and inventory medical supplies, medications, and emergency equipment.
- Provide EMT continuing education and manage AHA First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
- Coordinate training with EMTs, Fire Brigade, and Operations teams.
- Participate in Safety Fairs and deliver AED usage presentations.
- Participate in Evergy safety and health services projects and initiatives
- Advise leadership on health trends, injury metrics, and safety strategies.
- Collaborate with HR on accommodations, restrictions, and return-to-work planning.
- Benchmark with other nuclear site teams to share best practices and improve outcomes.
- Associate’s degree in applicable field, bachelor’s degree preferred
- Must be a licensed Physician’s Assistant or APRN and have unrestricted state licensure
- Incumbents at this level must possess at least 8 years of experience in occupational health nursing and demonstrated success in managing and implementing programs related to improving clinical operations, regulatory compliance and employee health management. Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity, managing a team of people, setting direction, deploying resources is required. Must demonstrate the ability to deploy strategic priorities and successfully impact department results.

Successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Working conditions will vary from office to field environment. Must be able to work additional hours, both indoors and outdoors, on short notice in all types of weather.
